Spoiled Legends
Kayline McKenzie

Kayline can't believe that she let herself get shot. And for what? A spoiled prince?

Kayline remembers standing in the screaming crowd, falling over themselves for the twin princes. Don't get Kayline wrong, they are both very handsome. Their caramel-like skin tone and perfect smile- No, Kayline isn't here to admire from afar.

Kayline had no idea what she was planning on doing here. There was no way for her to actually talk to them, and get them to hire her or something. Kayling had a gut feeling that this parade would be worth something.

Now she is laying in the back seat of the royal van, bleeding from a sniper. Of course it hurts, but this is just another piece of straw in the haystack. Kayline starts to feel her eyes droop when someone shakes her awake.

" Hey, you need to stay awake!" The prince called Will shouts at Kayline. When Kayline saw the sniper aiming at Will, she didn't know what came over her. She started making her way through the crowd and pushing people out the way. When Kayline yelled look out to Will and looked directly at her, she felt like she was the only person there. But then she pushed him out of the way and got shot in the abdomen. Lovely.

" You don't think I know that?" Kayline says through the pain. Every time she breathes in her stomach shoots up in pain.

" It's not like it's easy to stay awake when you lose a lot of blood." Kayline swallows, her throat suddenly dry. She squeezes her eyes together, letting the pain disappear for a nanosecond. She hears someone tell her they are getting help.

" Oh thanks, my knights," Stay awake! Kayline tells herself, but her body takes control, " in shining... armor."

Kayline feels the van going faster, and then she passes out.

Kayline finds herself laying on a hospital bed. Except the room was incredibly wide and tall for a hospital. Light shines behind her, casting her shadow on the wall across from her. Kayline turns her head and sees an enormous window reaching the top of the ceiling and touching the bottom. Kayline slowly gets out of bed and walks to the enormous window. She adjust's her hospital gown while she gets up. She could feel the stitches in her stomach but ignores them. Kayline knows the uncomfortable feeling, and has accepted it as apart of her life.

She peers outside, her eyes adjusting to the light. Down below, is a garden, unlike anything she has ever seen, and that's including the Andoria's garden. Flowers of every kind, and colors of every kind flood her vision. And the city, the city of Movaria is bigger than she could imagine. And that's when she realized... Kayline is in the Movarian castle! She tries to move around her hospital bed to see more of the city. Out of the entire places that she has traveled due to her job, she has never stepped foot in Movarian territory. She wouldn't disgrace her own kingdom that much.

She sees many buildings, or mansions. The buildings closer to the castle have more space and bigger houses, whereas farther away, the houses are diminutive and  closer together. And in the distance, Kayline sees the infamous Movarian wall.

One of the many reasons why Kayline can't stand this kingdom is because they are so ashamed of the poor and criminal citizens of their kingdom, they throw them out behind the wall to waste away and die, instead of actually dealing with the problem and using the money they don't need to help them. The least the royal families could do is open more fattening restaurants so the poor can have jobs.

Kayline hears a voice clear their throat. She jumps, being scared from the sudden noise in the nice quiet. She abruptlys turns to see Prince Ryker sitting in a chair next to her bed. How did she not notice him? Then, Kayline remembers that she is standing in a hospital gown. She suddenly feels awkward and very aware of herself. Kayline isn't fat, but she definitely isn't skinny and no thanks to the bosom fairy either. She grabs her wrist in front of her and looks on the floor.

" I have some questions." Ryker suddenly speaks. Kayline swallows and lifts her head to look at him. The light hits him just right. The light silhouette's his jawline, making it appear sharper than usual. Even though he is buff, some parts of his face are sunken in and some bags are present underneath his eyes. Something has been getting to him. It could be the duty of being a prince, but since he is younger, he is not the heir.

Plus, Kayline has been around royalty her whole life. For someone who is not going to be king, he doesn't have anything to worry about. So what is he stressed about?

" Of course, your Highness." Kayline says. Ryker waves his hands and stands up. He is a lot taller than Kayline expected him to be.

" No, please it's Ryker." He says. Kayline nods his head.

" Of course, Your Highness." Kayline says back. Ryker rolls his eyes. He stands there, letting the silence drag for a minute.

" How did you know that my brother was a target?" He asked.

" I saw a sniper on the rooftop. Usually it's the hierarchy they are shooting at."

" Where are you from?" He asks. Kayline stays quiet, getting into character. Ryker steps a little closer.

" I'm going to ask this again, where are you from?"

" I'm from the outer circle, Your Highness." Kayline whispers. Ryker looks taken back, as if it didn't seem like Kaylin belonged in that area.

" You are from beyond the wall?" He whispers. Kayline stays silent giving Ryker his answer. He looks at Kayline with a newfound curiosity. He opens his mouth to say something, but then the door down the hall bursts open. It's the King and Queen of Movaria and Prince William. By the time they get close, Kayline can finally get a good view of Will.

" What's your name?" The King asks.

" Emma, Emma Oaklyn." Kayline says, mumbling underneath her breath. The Queen stands up straighter and walks towards me.

" Emma," Kayline could finally tell why people thought she was intimidating. Instead, The Queen envelopes Kayline in a hug.

" Thank you." Kayline hugs her back, keeping her anxious and prideful feelings to herself.
