Edna the Escapist
Kayline McKenzie

Kayline wakes up in cold sheets. Her duvet is on the floor, along with her pillows and she is spread out across the bed. Her head pounds, probably from all the crying last night. Ugh, she feels like a child. Kay looks around the room and sees Chris laying against the door, gun in hand. Her head is hanging low and her breathing is slow. Chris must've stayed here with her.

Kay slides out of bed and tiptoes on the wood floor to sit next to Chris. She looks peaceful. Kay doesn't want to wake her, but she doesn't anyway. Kay gives Chris a little nudge. She slowly opens her eyes.

" What time is it?" She mumbles.

" About 7:40." Kay responds. Chris nods and rubs the back of her neck. Her thick, brown hair is up in a messy bun and a little bit of makeup residue is underneath her eyes.

" You could've slept in the bed with me, Chris." Kay says as she helps her get up.

" Yeah, well." She says before a yawn.

Kay wonders how Magdalene is doing. She hopes she is better, and she hope she is cured. Noah enters Kays mind as well. Last night he insisted that he stays with Magdalene. Tracy was gone for the weekend at a conference of some sorts, so the sisters let them stay here.

Kay was afraid that Micheal's dead body still carried the disease. So after Kay's meltdown, Chris and her burned his body at the mountain. They gave him a Dark Moon funeral. He deserved it. His last moments were protecting someone else.

Kaylines thoughts are disrupted as she hears a little girl scream.

    Magdalene. Edna.

As Chris and Kay rush out of the room, they hear a little bit of wrestling, then silence. They run halfway down the stairs and see Edna in the kitchen, surrounded by their notes and laptops. She probably knows everything now. About the academy, about their mission. She has Magdalene in her hands, a knife against her throat. Chris and Kay pull out their guns simultaneously. She risks a glance to the couch and finds Noah passed out on the floor.

" How did she get out?" Kay whispers to Chris.

" How am I supposed to know? For what's its worth, I was willing to kill her yesterday." Chris whispers angrily.

With their guns still aiming at Edna, they make their way down the rest of the stairs. They probably look really weird with their pajama shorts and tank tops. Kays forearm still stings from the cut, and the use of the muscle isn't helping it, either. However, instead of her old shirt covering the wound, it's all patched up and wrapped. Hopefully it doesn't come undone.

Magdalene is standing there, tears building up in her eyes, but she holds a brave face, daring the knife to come closer. If only Magdalene was awake when Kay saved her yesterday, she could have helped her. But Kay wishes that experience upon no one. However she was considering it for Edna.

" So where have you been the entire time, huh, gorgeous?" Edna asks Kay in Yodimian, Edna's native language. She looks hideous. Her face is all bloody and swollen, Kay could barely understand her. Chris did a good job.
