The disease that plagues us all
Kayline McKenzie

" A plague?! What- How is it a plague? Don't we have a cure for it or something?" Noah rushes. Chris shakes her head.

" From what Kay and I know, we don't have anything that can cure whatever plague this is. What I don't understand is if all of the doctors know these symptoms and they can hypothesize what the outcome is, why didn't they go to the King? Or the more professional doctors who specialize in disease and medicines?" Chris says as folds her arms. She dips her short fingernails into her arm. She does that a lot when she thinks. Noah lifts his head, as if a lightbulb just went off in his head.

" I know why doctors can't figure it out. It's not your normal plague. The symptoms are just symptoms. It's not the actual disease that they know, a disease that they can cure. Every single disease has different structure, and different outcomes. Every single illness has a certain effect on everything. A pattern. A written law of some sort. That is what doctors are, they are scientists and certain written laws have certain outcomes. Without knowing what the written law is, they have no idea how to fight the outcome." Noah blurts out. Chris and Kayline just look at him. Kayline smiles on the inside. She loved having Noah and Chris here with me. Helping her out and figuring out the potholes.

" I'm sorry come again?" Chris asks as she shakes her head like she just woke up from a bad dream. Noah sighs.

" The symptoms are just symptoms. A symptom is part of a disease or how to identify a disease. It's not the actual disease. The reason why the doctors haven't figured out what the disease is-"

" Because they only have one puzzle piece. They don't have the box to look at the picture. They don't know what peice goes where or what the picture looks like." Kayline says to herself. Noah smiles at Kayline for keeping up with his analogy.

" More like a corner piece. Those are beginning pieces." Noah says as he puts his hands on his hips, victorious. Chris shoots him a weird look.

" You know when you start a puzzle you start with the corner and side pieces?" Noah tries to explain.

" Yeah, yeah, I get it." Chris waves Noah off. Noah points his thumb at Chris and rolls his eyes. Kayline tries to cover her snigger.

" Okay. We just have to go through all of the symptoms, until we can figure out what kind of plague we are dealing with. Piece of cake." They hear a knock on the door and freeze. Kayline's heart drops and her mind is set in motion. The years of training unconsciously, taking over my muscles and intuition. Kayline reaches for her gun, behind her back and walks slowly towards the door. Kayline looks in the door hole and lets out her breath. She shoves her gun back under her shirt and opens the door, revealing Tracy.

Tracy walks in and sees Chris and Noah. Not to mention my board full of papers with red string all pointing to a picture of her daughter.

" What's going on Noah?" Tracy says with a tremble in her voice. Kayline puffs some air out of her nose and whispers to Noah.

" The whole keeping her out of this, Noah, didn't last that long." Kayline jabs.

" You're the one who let her in." Noah retorts. Kayline sticks her tongue out at him. Noah ignores Kayline and walks over to his mom, holding her and leading her out of the house. Kayline stays behind knowing that she will only make it worse.
