It's me again God,
The laughter of a kookaburra brought me into the new day and made me wonder how much I have been laughing lately! Life can get so serious if I let it and I can forget to just enjoy the simple things! You gave me the ability to laugh and have provided me with so many things to distract me from being overwhelmed by the day to day responsibilities of life. In this life, you have made a time for everything:
"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,"
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 NIVI sense You reminding me that these activities often happen alongside of one another and so I shouldn't get stuck with one particular frame of mind! Like an overcast morning, the clouds of gloom can suddenly disappear from view, revealing clear blue sky!
Sarah had been barren for so long when You finally blessed her with a son! Your answer to her prayer brought laughter to her heart and most likely many others because You are a God who loves to surprise us with Your timing!
"Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.""
Genesis 21:6 NIVSometimes as we reflect back on Your intervention in our lives, on Your greatness in so many ways, like the psalmist we can say:
"Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them.""
Psalms 126:2 NIVYou love us so much Lord that You want to bless us with good health and Solomon clearly understood that laughter was part of that:
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
Proverbs 17:22 NIVLord help me to see the funny side of life today even amid the seemingly mundane tasks. May laughter and joy bring health and wholeness to my body and may I enjoy the sense of humour You have given to me!
May I be like the Proverbs 31 woman:
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
Proverbs 31:25 NIVIn Jesus' Name,
Amen.
