It's me again God,
When everything around me seems to be crumbling, it's so good that I can come to You Lord, just as David did on so many occasions. When he felt weak and overwhelmed, he called out to You, his Rock and always found the strength to carry on.
As the weeks go by and our world is still in the grip of this virus, it can feel overwhelming, especially when we think about the economic devastation that will become more evident as the months pass. Like David, I run to You, knowing that You are my rock, my fortress and my deliverer. I take refuge in You right now:
"I love you, Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock,
my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock,
in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold.
I called to the Lord,
who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the Lord;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears."
Psalms 18:1-6 NIVThere are so many other sources of escape from the realities of living through a worldwide pandemic. I could go for a walk, watch a movie or read a book but ultimately I am just trying to block out the truth of what is happening. However when I spend time coming to You, I am changed!
Thank You for listening to me every time I call out Your Name —You hear my voice. Again and again, I find strength as I come to You. I am lifted up and blessed.
"He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
he drew me out of deep waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.
He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me."
Psalms 18:16-19 NIVThis Psalm of David reminds me that You take action —I might not see how You are working until I am through the trial but I will look back and see how You supported me! I am so thankful that You reach down and take hold of me! You change things so radically —what may appear as darkness, soon becomes light!
"You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light."
Psalms 18:28 NIVPlease help me to keep calling out to You and seeking refuge in Your presence, knowing I am coming to the only One who is perfect in this flawed world.
"As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord's word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him."
Psalms 18:30 NIVI feel such great peace as I am continually shielded by You!
"Therefore I will praise you,
Lord, among the nations;
I will sing the praises of your name."
Psalms 18:49 NIVAmen.
