It's me again God,
In times of darkness and despair, it's easy to forget the big picture. We can cling to every piece of news that comes along, hoping to find a glimmer of light but day after day death tolls rise around the world but perhaps we are not reading all the news that is available!
This morning I woke with the words of a children's song in my mind:
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us
Oh you'd better believe it
The light of grace to ones in darkness
Oh you'd better believe it
All the glory of the One and Only
Wrapped in perfect humanity
Oh – Grace and truth
Has come through Jesus
Oh you'd better believe it
(Colin Buchanan)These words pointed me to the book of John, where I can read the Good News that brings light even in the midst of the crisis our world is currently enveloped in:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 1:1-5 NIVThese words fill me with hope and gratitude as I am reminded that the light of Jesus shines through even the darkness of this pandemic! No matter how dark things may seem, the darkness that the enemy wanted to bring through this virus, cannot overcome the light of Jesus!
"The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:9-14 NIVThank You for Your invitation to receive Jesus and for the opportunity to become part of Your family! Believing and receiving were a long time ago for me but as Your child, I continue to see things differently. The light of Jesus affects the way I look at the current situation. Thank You for the security I feel as I am part of Your family, no matter what happens around me.
I truly am so blessed by the light You bring to me each morning when I wake. Your light removes all fear of what the day could bring. Help me to remember that as Your child, filled with Your Spirit, I too am light in this world!
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light"
Ephesians 5:8 NIVBless all my fellow children of light today as many are still required to be out working in the community providing essential services. Keep them safe and help them shine Your light in the dark places.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen.
