The twins were currently stood in Kaiden's room, troubled expressions on their faces as they digested what Elijah had just told them. "So, he left instead of spending his last few hours with us?" Hope remarked with a hint of bitterness as a sorrowful escaped her lips. Elijah's expression turned sympathetic as he looked at his niece and nephew, "he's hurt and he's scared," the original attempted to defend.

Kaiden scoffed, shaking his head as he looked up at his uncle, "that's no excuse," the young teen remarked firmly causing Elijah to sigh. "I'm not making excuses," Elijah replied, looking between both Hope and Kaiden's dejected expressions, "if anything, he cares too much," the original admitted causing Hope to sigh as she took a seat on Kaiden's bed as Kaiden shifted his gaze towards the floor.

"You are both his everything. And without you, he wouldn't even be making this sacrifice," Elijah told them both as he took a step closer towards them. "Do you understand you've accomplished in fifteen years what I couldn't in a thousand?" the original asked causing Hope and Kaiden to look back up at him with furrowed brows, "this isn't abandonment...he's afraid."

The twins exchanged a look, tears glistening in their eyes just as Klaus suddenly appeared in the doorway. "I'd like a moment alone with my children, please," the hybrid spoke, his sad gaze locked on both his children as Elijah turned to face him with a soft smile. "Of course," Elijah replied, nodding his head as he offered his brother a small smile and pat on the shoulder before leaving the room.

Kaiden and Hope both stared at their dad with matching heartbroken expressions causing Klaus to falter as his heart fell heavily. "Scream, yell, break something if you have to," the hybrid pleaded with both his children, "just don't look at me like that," Klaus pleaded, unable to stand the pained look they were both giving him. What he was doing was already hard enough, he didn't need it to be any harder.

Kaiden shook his head, "this isn't right," the teen stated firmly, not willing to accept the reality of losing his dad. "A father protecting his children, I'd say that's exactly right," Klaus retorted with a soft smile causing Hope to scoff angrily. "Elijah was willing to take the curse completely!" the elder of the two twins yelled angrily as fierce tears gathered in her eyes.

"And what kind of father allows another man to die for his children?" Klaus remarked with a raised eyebrow causing Hope to narrow her eyes at him. "The kind that loves them!" Hope shot back angrily, her voice raised as angry tears rolled down her cheeks. "I love you!" Klaus yelled back, looking firmly between his son and daughter who both stilled at his words, tears in their eyes.
