Caroline tapped her fingers against the steering wheel as she and Klaus reached an intersection, waiting for the traffic light to turn green. "We turn off in 4.1 miles," the blonde informed him, keeping an eye on the tracker on her phone that told her they were getting close to the twins and Roman. Klaus nodded, a troubled look on his face as he stared out of the window in front of him, the last voicemail Thea had sent him running through his mind.

"Do you think she regrets the time we've spent together?" the original suddenly asked causing Caroline to turn towards him, a stunned look on her face. "Seriously?" the blonde asked, sparing him a quick glance before focusing back on the road ahead as the light changed. "Do you?" Klaus repeated as he turned his head to the side to look at the blonde knowing that if his wife was ever going to confide in someone about their relationship, it would be Caroline.

Caroline shot the original another glance, her brows knitted together as she caught sight of the pain resting in his eyes before she sighed in defeat. "Okay, if it'll take your mind off wanting to murder an innocent teenage boy, then..." the blonde relented with a roll of her eyes, "no, I don't think she does," the vampire answered with a soft smiling, attempting to appease the hybrid's worries.

"Before you came into town, Thea was so hell-bent on doing everything for everyone she barely had a moment to live for herself," Caroline told him, recalling her and Thea's teenage years. "Even when you showed up, she still tried to push you away because we pretty much forced her too. She was so scared of disappointing and losing everyone she'd ever known that she denied her own happiness," the blonde admitted with a look of guilt on her face as she remembered how badly they'd treated the brunette.

Klaus listened intently to the blonde with his brows furrowed as Caroline swallowed thickly, "when she left town we were all devastated, but it was what was best for her because it lead her back to you," the blonde stated, shooting the original a small smile. Klaus smiled softly at her words, thinking back to how he and Thea had rekindled their romance in New Orleans and how it had been far stronger than it had ever been before.

"Though I'm sure your ego doesn't need to be inflated any more than it already is, I do think you're the best thing that ever happened to her - other than the twins," Caroline admitted causing a look of pride to wash over Klaus' face. Having gained that declaration from someone that previously, and still might, detest his very existence was worth more than gold; especially considering it was his wife's best friend that had told him.

Caroline rolled her eyes at his visible arrogance, "and, though you are a raging psychopath with highly questionable tendencies, you taught her what it meant to live and be happy...truly happy," the blonde stated causing the original to chuckle softly. "She loves you Klaus, she's always loved you; even when everyone else was telling her it was wrong. So no, I don't think she regrets even a second of the time you've spent together," Caroline finished with a smile causing a happy smile to break out on the originals face as he turned his head to look out the window.
