𝙸. Chapter 17: "Avengers! A-"

The new Avengers Facility is a welcome upgrade from the broken and battered Stark Tower. Sarah sat on the bed in her quarters staring at the bag she packed. She gave a lot of thought these last few months, especially after more memories had resurfaced after catching up on the history she missed. The disappearance of The Winter Soldier had caught her attention the most, primarily because she recognized him.

     "Sargent Barnes," A voice whispers, it sounded as if the person was in pain and almost pleading. The voice sounded familiar, but she couldn't put of finger on it just yet.

There was knock at the door, "Come in," she says when she comes out of the painful memory, "What are you wearing?" Sarah asks when she sees Wanda's suit, "Why aren't you wearing-?" Wanda wanted to continue then she realized, "You're leaving," she concludes, crossing her arms.

     "I have to find him," Sarah says passing Wanda the file.

     "Is this because Fury wants him located?" Wanda questions.

      "No," Sarah replies shaking her head, "No, this is not for Fury. This is for him. The things we did? I know how much that can plague a person,"

     "You don't now the state his mind is in,"

     "True, but he's been two years without hydra how bad can he be?"

In the halls of the Avengers Facility, Tony and Steve lead Thor to the exit.

     "The rules have changed," Steve says to Tony as they walked through the halls of the Avengers facility.

     "We're dealing with something new." Tony agrees.

     "Well, The Vision is artificial intelligence," Steve replies.

     "A machine," Adds Tony.

      "So it doesn't count." Steve continues.

     "No, it's not like a person lifting the hammer," Tony admits. Thor, walking between the two. He listens and grins at their hypothesis'.

     "Right," Says steve, "Different rules for us." squinting his eyes gesturing his hand towards himself.

     "Nice guy, but artificial," Tony adds.

     "Thank you," Steve exclaims,

     "If he can wield the hammer," Thor Interrupts, "He can keep the Mind Stone. It's safe with The Vision and these days, safe is in short supply."

The group stops, Steve looks down to think. "But if you put the hammer in an elevator-?"

     "It would still go up," Tony finishes.

     "Elevator's not worthy," Steve replies.

     "I am going to miss these little talks of ours," Thor said, putting a hand on Tony's shoulder.

     "Not if you don't leave," Tony states.

Thor's face turns stern and says, "I have no choice. The Mind Stone is the fourth of the Infinity Stones to show up in the last few years. That's not a coincidence"

They reach the outdoors, "Someone has been playing an intricate game and has made pawns of us. But once all these pieces are in position..." Thor continues.

     "Tripple Yahtzee,"

     "You think you can find out what's coming?" Steve asks.

     "I do. Besides this one," Thor begins to say patting Tony's chest, "there's nothing that can't be explained," he finishes jokingly.

He steps a few feet away, offering Tony and Steve one last smile before lifting Mjolnir to the sky disappearing through the Bifrost leaving a scorched lawn where Thor once stood.

     "That man has no regard for lawn maintenance." Tony says shaking his head walking towards the driveway "I'm gonna miss him though.... and you're gonna miss me. There are gonna be a lot of manly tears."

He clicks a button and his exotic car pulls up to the curb, Steve looks to Tony and says, "I will miss you, Tony," genuinely meaning it.

    "Yeah?" he questions, "Well," He shrugs, "It's time for me to tap out. Maybe I should take a page out of Barton's book, build Pepper a farm." He gets this far away look in his eye. "Hope nobody blows it up," he jokes,

Steve smiles, "The simple life?" he asks.

     "You'll get there one day," He says,

     "I dunno," Steve shrugs, looking at Tony, before saying, "Family, stability. The guy who wanted that went into the ice seventy-five years ago. I think someone else came out," Then he starts to think about Sarah.

Tony nods, starts to get into his car, and hesitates, looking back at steve, "You alright?" Tony questions seeing he's deep in thought.

Taking a deep breath, "I have a daughter," Steve replies a smile pulling at his lips.

     "Yeah, you do. Thanks for reminding me. I have something for you," handing steve a tablet that was in his car. "I had Friday dig up anything she could find on Lil ol' Sarah, it's all on there," he says taping the tablet, "don't think it was easy, she was very hard to find,"

     "Her birth certificate?" Steve questions, that's the first thing he spots.

     "Kinda need that to go places, but yeah. You weren't on the original, but if you look there...your name is under father,"

     "Tony, I don't know what to say,"

     "Thank you would be nice,"

Steve smiles and says, "Thank you,"

Steve finds Natasha staring into space, "Wanna keep staring at the wall, or do you wanna go to work?" Steve asks and Natasha turns to look at him, "I mean it is a pretty interesting wall." He teases.

Rolling her eyes, "I thought you and Tony were still gazing into each other's eyes." she teases back. "How do we look?" Natasha asks taking the tablet from steve, walking briskly to his side.

     "Well, we're not the '27 Yankees," Steve references.

     "We've got some hitters," She replies not looking up from the tablet.

     "They're good, They're not a team,"

She says, "Let's beat 'em into shape," They smile.

They open the double doors and walk into the training room to meet the New Avenger recruits, They were greeted by James Rhodes, Sam Wilson, Vision, and Wanda Maximoff.

Steve yells, "Avengers! A-" then stop and questionably looks to Natasha, "Where's Sarah?" he asks in a whisper. "She's supposed to be here," Natasha shrugs.

Steve looks to Wanda, she shakes her head subtly.
