15- planning the proposal

It was a few days after Chloe and I had been to see Janette and things between us were bad. We'd hardly spoken and Ashley definitely knew something was wrong between us. I'd hardly seen Ashley but today was the day that we were planning his proposal to Chloe. I couldn't wait to see Chloe's reaction.

I went down for breakfast and found Ashley.

Me: "where's Chloe?"
Ashley: "gone away for a few days. What happened at the hospital? Did something happen between Janette and Chloe?"
Me: "something happened between Chloe and I. Her and Janette got on well from what I could tell. I feel so bad. Did she say when she'd be back?"
Ashley: "all she said was that she had to go away for a few days."
Me: "are we going to plan the proposal for when she gets back?"
Ashley: "yeah, it'll be a nice surprise for her"
Me: "definitely"

I got myself some breakfast and sat at the table. Once I'd finished I quickly washed up and went upstairs to have a shower and get dressed. After I'd finished getting ready, I text Chloe to tell her that I was sorry and can we talk. I went back downstairs with my notepad and different coloured pens ready to start planning Ashleys proposal to Chloe hoping I hadn't ruined everything. My phone went off while we were in the middle of planning, I quickly checked it hoping that it was Chloe: it was Bex telling me that Noah had been allowed to go home. I was made up for Janette but I couldn't help thinking about what happened between Chloe and I. Ashley took one look at me and knew that something was wrong.

Ashley: "what's up? Not who you wanted it to be?"
Me: "it was Bex saying that Noah had been allowed to go home. Don't get me wrong I'm really happy for Janette but it just made me think of what happened between Chloe and I. I miss her and she's not replying so I can't try and fix it."
Ashley: "do you want to talk about what happened?"
Me: "Chloe and Janette had been talking in the corridor, then came back in to where Bex and I were with Noah, I asked Chloe if she'd properly met him and wanted to say hi but it epically backfired as she ran off crying"
Ashley: "hey it's not your fault."
Me: "it is"
Ashley: "how'd you work that out?"
Me: "if I hadn't tried to push her to properly meeting Noah then she wouldn't have run off crying and she'd be here instead of wherever she is"
Ashley: "you know how Chloe and I have always told you that no matter what the problem is we'll always be honest with each other?"
Me: "yeah"
Ashley: "there's some things that we haven't told you."
Me: "you're scaring me"
Ashley: "I can't fully go into it as it's not my secret or place to tell you but I can say that something happened to Chloe before you came to live with us that might explain her reaction"
Me: "I hadn't thought of it like that. Thanks Ashley. If you speak to her please tell her I'm sorry for upsetting her?"
Ashley: "of course I will. Do you want to finish planning and organising the proposal?"
Me: "thank you and yes. We need to make this the best surprise ever!"
