~ Chapter 40 ~

"What the actual fuck Jaemin."

"Oh, my God Haechan shut up."

"Jeno, did you hear what he said? I-"

Jaemin looked at his two best friends who were sitting across from him. The baby in Jeno's lap. 

"Yes, I did," Jeno began. "But you can't just get mad at him. Sure, this whole thing started cause he was stupid, but look at him now. He really regrets his actions. And he's been through enough."

Jaemin gave Jeno a grateful smile but stopped when he got the 'look' from Haechan. 

"Sorry," Jaemin mumbled, but Haechan just waved his arm, dismissing the apology. 

"You're too cute," Jeno, who wasn't really paying attention to the other two, mumbled to the baby. 

"Jeno, pay attention" Haechan scolded, hitting his friend on the head.

"Ouch," Jeno said, glaring at Haechan, but turned to look at the baby who began laughing. "Are you laughing at me?"

The other two adults stared at Jeno and the baby, eventually deciding to let them be, and continuing discussing what to do. 

"Hyuck, you've got to help me," Jaemin pleaded, trying not to let his tears escape. "I don't want to get married to someone else. And I really don't want to lose Haneul."

Haechan looked at his best friend, and his heart broke. He knew Jaemin didn't deserve what was happening to him. Sure, he made some dumb decisions, but overall, Jaemin was just Jaemin. 

He was one of the few people you would take time to understand because he deserves every bit of love. And though he won't admit it, love was the biggest thing Jaemin wanted. 

Before Haechan could answer, the sound of a phone ringing interrupted them. 

Jaemin stood up and grabbed his phone, not looking at the caller, and pressed the answer. 

"Hello?"

"Jaemin? This is your dad. I need to speak to you."

His eyes widened and he held his breath. Haechan understood automatically. He mouthed some words to Jaemin and nodded. 

Jaemin put his phone on speaker as he and Haechan went to another room, leaving Jeno and Hajoon there. At the moment, all Jeno cared about was the baby. 

The two closed the door behind, stepping into the room and listening carefully to the CEO. 

"I know what's been going on between you and Haneul. But I need it to stop. I'm sure you've heard of her getting fired. And if you didn't know, the marriage between you and Jung Eun will still be taking place. Whether you like it or not."

Jaemin took a second before processing what his father had said. "But I really love Haneul," he tried to say.

He really did. And he didn't even know Jung Eun until now. It was actually the first time he'd ever heard her name. 

"Love isn't real Jaemin. And I think it's time you understand that."

He ended the call, leaving both Haechan and Jaemin in shock. 

"So like, is your dad okay?" Haechan said after a couple of minutes of silence. 

"I honestly don't think anyone is okay anymore," Jaemin replied, throwing his phone on the couch before laying down. "What am I supposed to do?"

Haechan sat next to his friend, trying his best to comfort him. But honestly, he didn't know what to say. 

"Jaemin. Right now, you need to figure out a way to get Haneul back," Haechan suggested.

Jaemin looked at Haechan. "I know, but I doubt she'll forgive me anytime soon."

"It's worth a try," he replied, giving his friend a slight smile. "I know you already tried, but doing it again won't hurt."

Jaemin nodded at his friend's words, listening closely.

"Besides, your father's wrong, Jaemin. Loving someone is as real as anything."

And we're at chapter 40-
