"Bridgett is officially out of our lives forever." Mekai came in the house, loosening his tie
"Da-da!" Kason jumped up and down on my lap, Kacey was fast asleep in her rocker
"I take it court went well." I smiled, moving my legs so he could sit beside me
"Great. My name's officially off all his information and I got paperwork to prove he not mine. It's just us from now on, baby girl." He pecked my lips "No more interruptions."
"Mm, I love you so much."
"I love you more."
Kason slapped him, laughing. Mekai grabbed him from me, tickling his little feet.
"I know you gonna' miss him. You developed love for that baby, it don't just go away overnight." I said
"You right, but lil man gone be good. They trying to build a child neglect case against Bridgett anyway, she not a fit parent."
"Hopefully everything works out for the greater good."
"It is, always does. You cooking tonight?"
"Steak, potatoes, spinach, and rolls."
"I wanted us to go out for dinner, but I don't wanna' miss none of that." He licked his lips
"We can tomorrow night, I'll get Ms. Rita to watch the twins so we can celebrate foreal." She pecked my jawline before getting up and going in the kitchen

"Girl I can't believe she lied for so long." Laura said on the other end of the phone
"Fucked up, right? It's so bittersweet because he loves that lil' boy."
Laura and I were gossiping about the whole DNA thing. Her and Dom are like family so of course they been knew about the whole situation from the beginning.
"He did Ky, I witnessed it. I know he taking it hard"
"Yeah, and even though I told him I'd remain cordial, I still might deal with her for the trouble and pain she caused if I run into her." I shrugged, putting the rolls in the oven
"Always ready to fight somebody." She chuckled "I'm just happy y'all finally know professor Edwards the daddy and-"
"What?" I closed the oven, readjusting the phone to my ear
"Uhm, I thought you knew."
"Hell no I didn't know, nobody knew! How do you know that?"
"I overheard them talking a while ago. I didn't think anything of it though."
"Laura what the fuck you mean-" I stopped myself from taking it too far "How long is a lil while ago?"
"About two weeks before Bridgett had her baby. It wasn't my place to tell you and I-"
I hung up, not wanting to hear another word. She knew Mekai wasn't the father all along and never said anything. What type of shit is that?
"Baby, them lines was long as shit." Mekai entered the kitchen "Why you look like I did something wrong?" He asked sitting the groceries on the counter
I quickly fixed my face "No, just deep in thought. You get the spinach?"
"Yeah, they only had baby spinach, so I got two bags 'cause I know you like it." He put the little bit of groceries up
"Thanks baby...Hey, remember when you told me a guy answered Bridgett's phone?" I washed the spinach off
"Yeah, why?"
"Did he sound familiar in any way?" I dragged the situation along, not knowing how he'd react
"A lil', but I ain't really think nothin' of it." He shrugged, wrapping his arms around me "Why though?"
"Laura says the baby's daddy is Professor Edwards."
"What?" He squinted "How she figure that?"
"She said she heard them over talking weeks before Bridgett even had Eric." I shook my head, disgusted at her betrayal
"This some shit man. So she been knew? Before all this extra shit." He sucked his teeth, letting go of me "If she knew, that mean Dom had to too."
"Not necessarily. You should talk to him first."
"I am. I can't believe she'd hold out on something that important. I missed time wit' my kids cause of all this shit."
"That's on me though." I reasoned
"But she knew and ain't say shit. It's on her fasho'." He grabbed his phone, going to the back bedroom
Why wouldn't Laura say anything? I questioned myself as I finished cooking.
Hey y'all, I'm feeling better today! Progress takes time, sometimes you have setbacks, and that's with any situation. I'm slowly but surely accepting that. I thank you for being supportive and patient.
