Life wasn't fair.

Yet they fought against it.

...

"We're going to be late." Collective sound of panic rose up between them, as if all three of them were only now suddenly realizing the gravity of the situation.

They were not only going to be late. They were going to be really late.

"He's never going to let me live this down." It had taken actual years for Seokjin to stop bringing up how he had almost missed his first graduation. There was absolutely no way he was ever going to let this go.

"You? I'm his mate. He's going to hold this over my head for the rest of our lives." He could picture it now. Decades into the future, Seokjin would still be using this as leverage.

"Look, we're pulling in now so -"

"The second this car stops I say we make a run for it."

"I'm actually thinking about just tucking and rolling."

"Both of you are impossible."

...

Once, his entire universe had consisted of exactly one person. That it had multiplied in such unexpected ways was a blessing that he had once thought may never occur.

That he should look out and see absolutely none of those faces in the crowd watching as they walked across that carefully constructed stage to celebrate what should have been their biggest accomplishment was some strange kind of irony he didn't exactly understand.

But history tended to repeat it's self endlessly.

...

There were bird noises. A desperate mix of screaming and bird noises and there was no way every single person hadn't heard it. Hundreds of heads turned all at once to watch the comedy that was currently unfolding. A tiny little black haired omega running at full speed across the thick grass, camera held above his head as he released some odd sort of mating call that absolutely no one understood but was completely mesmerized by. That Seokjin should feel sympathy for the poor person who once more was unfortunate enough to be called ahead of him seemed like a tradition.

Yoongi skidded to a halt directly before the stage, dropping down onto one knee with the camera primed and ready, fully prepared to record the following events. Like he hadn't just interrupted the flow of them so completely that everything had come to a screeching halt.

Somehow, the very second the announcer opened his mouth to speak, the whole thing repeated. Only this time it sounded like something out of an anime, high pitched screams and lion roaring and he was certain he heard some kind of incantation to summon and ancient warrior and make him rise from the dead. That his alpha should actually be slower than Yoongi was both amusing and embarrassing, and he tried desperately to just act like he didn't know either of them.

Jungkook slid - actually slid, like he was a super hero doing a crash landing - across the still wet grass, managing to lift himself just in time to go slamming into the first empty chair, smiling like he was infinitely proud of himself. Before doing the single most embarrassing thing anyone had ever done. Cupping his hands around his mouth and actually screaming his name, before clapping like an idiot.

At least he could live secure in the knowledge that this was never going to happen again.

...

Taehyung had, in typical fashion, sauntered in roughly ten minutes behind the other's, silent and calm, not doing anything to draw attention to himself. If you didn't count the fact that he was currently dressed from head to toe in Gucci, a fashion statement he most definitely did not need to make.

At least everyone forgot about it half an hour later when someone decided to let their child scream at the top of their lungs for a solid ten minutes before finally getting up and walking out.

It seemed like just his luck.

...

"I literally can not believe you almost missed my graduation. Again." And neither time had he managed to get any of it on camera. Seriously, Yoongi would have been better off turning it on himself instead of waiting to get into the proper position.

"Listen, okay, I had a lot to do this morning."

"It started at one in the afternoon."

"That's my reason and I'm sticking to it."

...

"Are you still not speaking to me? I told you I was sorry!"

"Which part are you sorry for?"

"All of it?"

"Okay, but which part are you the most sorry for?"

"Uh... probably the part where I screamed your name and clapped like a performing seal."

"I can't believe I had a child with you. Do you know I pray every single day for Soomin to take after me and Yoongi?"

"Are we just forgetting that he was late too?"

"Honestly I just expect it from him at this point."

"Okay but can you please just forgive me already? I'll do anything."

"I'm gonna need a minute to think about it."

"Oh I am so screwed."

...

"Soominnie?"

"Yes mommy?"

"Have I ever told you that your daddy is foolish?"

"Yah! Don't you dare tell my baby lies."

"They're not lies if it's true."

...

Looking back at the events of his life, he would realize that there had been a series of unexpected blessings that had all conspired perfectly to intertwine, each one leading to the next. If one tiny little thing had been out of place, if any small moment had gone differently, had transpired in some other manner, he wouldn't be exactly where he is now.

Meeting Jungkook. Losing Jungkook.

Finding out the truth of his own life.

Meeting Taehyung.

Finding his way back to Jungkook.

Making incredibly stupid choices which lead to far more misery than either of them deserved.

Mating within the heat of the moment.

Becoming pregnant despite how his brain tried to deny the desire of his heart.

All of it had come together in a perfect flow, a formation that shaped his life.

That shaped his future.
