They were inundated with TIEs as Poe barely managed to avoid a fatal hit.

"BB-8, please tell me we still have torpedoes," he said.

The droid bleeped a negative.

"What about missiles?" he asked making a sudden turn about and shooting the TIE that had been pursuing him.

BB-8 beeped in reply, his head spinning wildly.

"Ok...ion bombs?"

A single bleep.

"I know we only started with five. How many have we used?"

Before the droid could respond the monolith appeared right in front of them.

Poe had to suddenly pitch his X-Wing up so that he didn't collide with it. He shot up and over its tall peak before circling back around as the centre of monolith split and an impossibly bright light shone. He shielded his dazzled eyes.

Then lightning shot out in all directions. He readied himself for an impact but none came.

It was as if the lightning was alive, curving and diverting around the Resistance ships leaving them entirely unharmed. Each lightning bolts path ended with a First Order ship, which it quickly overwhelmed and scattered to pieces.

TIE after TIE, Star Destroyer after Star Destroyer were pierced and demolished.

Finn looked on too astonished to speak.

Hux saw it all from his dreadnought aghast and disbelieving, "But that isn't possible."

A single lightning strike threaded through an entire squadron of TIE bombers in the blink of an eye right in front of his viewport.

"...No..."

The lightning struck the dreadnought, branching and splitting over its huge surface as it embedded into the very heart of the ship and it broke in two.

Once the final First Order ship was destroyed the lightning and the monolith disappeared, leaving voids as if they were never there.

Poe sat panting in his cockpit, "Does anyone know what the hell that was?"

"Rey..." Finn said shakily, "That was Rey."

The stunned silence was the only answer he got.

The sky above Mortis swirled violently as the lightning returned and began to strike the spot where Rey stood.

Kylo Ren looked on in awe as she absorbed it: her body beginning to glow, her arms held out at her sides, and her head lulled back.

She felt the balance of her victory, the light finally winning after so many years of darkness. Every happy future of the triumph filled her mind: the people, cities, and planets celebrating the fall of the First Order. The light had risen and would continue its ascent long beyond their small lifespans. She saw the unfolding course of events for an entire galaxy and smiled.

The power swirled inside her.

This was too much for any one person to have, too much knowledge for anyone to know.

She force lifted the nearest shard from the dagger into her hands.

To Kylo's horror, she made a small cut on her arm. He reached out to her in confusion.

The light and power poured out of her as she rose from the ground. It shot up into the monastery walls causing them to fracture and break apart. Pulse after pulse left her, surrounding them with rubble.

One final jolt pierced straight through the centre of the middle tower and the entire structure started to crumble, falling away into the canyon beneath.

Rey collapsed to the floor, her eyes shut.
