My ears were filled with the sound of the loud country music that the cab driver put on. Funny how he was speeding like he was drunk.
Whatever.
My mind was on how I'll get that car from Mr Charlie and I prayed within me that he'll answer all my questions correctly. If he doesn't
then, I'll have to threaten him...with the gun my dad always kept in the glove compartment of his car. That's if the gun was still in that position. Omg, this was stressful.
"Hey you...you wanna get me killed, huh?" I asked.
"Oh sorry ma'am."
"Don't ma'am me. Reduce the damn speed."
Eventually, he did. No one's getting me killed lmao as I thought of how Bran almost killed me that day.
I giggled and noticed that the driver had reached my destination. I paid and got out of the car. That was it. That was Mr Charlie's house looking right at me as I stood there. I took in a deep breath hoping that I wouldn't use the gun but, if he was the murderer, I wouldn't hesitate to end his life.
I walked to his house and knocked on the door. I had to act appropriatelyso, he won't be alerted and kill me even before I do.
Before I knew it, the door opened and I smiled at the aged man with a big pot belly. He was bald and a bit short. Not as short as Baldwin though. "Oh Tes! Come on in."
"Yh." I said and walked into his house.
"I'm really sorry about your dad's death. I'll go make you tea." He said and walked inside the house. My eyes looked around noticing how most of his things were kind of compressed since his house was small. There was even a basket of knives and spoons on the center table but, his house smelt nice. I gave him that.
I sat down and he handed the cup of tea to me. "Here...it's not really hot but..."
"It's fine. Thank you. I won't be here for long. I just want... uhm.. to collect the car."
He frowned. "Your dead dad's car?"
Why's he frowning? Isn't it our car? He sat on the chair opposite mine and picked a cigarette.
"Yeah, my dad's car. Any problem?"
He pulled a smoke from the cigarette and puffed it into the air. "I'm sorry Tes but I can't give you the car."
What the hell?
"Why?"
"It's not his anymore."
I laughed. "So it's yours now? I could easily sue you and get my car back."
He heaved. "You won't understand dear."
He took in another smoke.
"Mr Charlie, I'm not leaving here without my car only if you'll kill me...too." I had to provoke him into spilling.
His eyes widened and he dropped the cigarette on the table. "I didn't kill your dad. Not giving you the car doesn't mean I have a hand in his murder."
"Oh miss me with that bullshit! You're not releasing that car cause you want to raise money for the drug lord you're working for, you selfish bastard...I mean I thought you had my dad's back but you're just like every other fake person..."
"Enough Teresa!" He had had enough of my mouth and that was what I wanted. I needed to trigger him into telling me everything. "I'm not giving you the car doesn't mean the car belongs to me either. It's now the drug lord's. I can never hurt my friend who wanted to help me out of the mess I was in. I can't hurt his family."
"Then why did you involve him in your dirty business? Why didn't you raise the money another way? Why?"
"Cause your dad was a very good man! He'd always want to help anyone no matter the consequence. He was so selfless."
I couldn't hold back the tears that began to pour out of my eyes like a flood. My dad was so good that he didn't deserve any of this.
