The drive to the river wasn't long like he said. I waited in the car and watched him sitting on the grass close to the river. My phone began to ring and it was Dylan. I switched off my phone. Really wasn't in that mood.
C'mon! We've been here for fifteen minutes and it didn't seem like he was going to end his thinking anytime soon.
Back in the car when our eyes met, I saw a hint of pain in those his brown eyes. I couldn't really decipher though, but I knew he was going through a lot at that moment. I needed to help him so we could leave this place as soon as possible.
My nose was welcomed with his scent as I joined him on the grass. That same nice scent that woke me up when I was in his room. I plucked a thin grass out of its root and said. "What's wrong?"
He was still staring at the river. "Coming from someone who wouldn't even tell me her name."
Ohh that's true. I chuckled. "What does it matter?" Acting like a hard guy.
"Cause you know my full name."
"That's not true." I lied.
He turned to meet eyes with mine and I flinched a bit. His eyes were so beautiful. "That grass strand isn't green...in essence it's actually black."
I dimmed my eyes and looked at it. "What? It's visibly green."
"You or any family member with color vision deficiency?"
I frowned and looked at the strand to confirm its colour. "No...I should be asking you that question cause everyone knows the normal color of grass is green."
"What of the brown old withered ones?"
"Those ones are obviously dying and have lost their green colour."
"But, they're brown at that moment just like how this one in your hand is black." It wasn't making sense but I began to doubt my eyesight. "No, it's green."
"Black." He snapped.
"Green." I said back.
"Black."
"Green." I chuckled.
"Black." Oh he wasn't giving up.
"Green."
"Black."
"Green."
"What's my name?"
"Uhm Brandon Edwin." I stopped myself and gasped with my hands over my mouth.
He smirked. "Got you."
I giggled. "Wow, nice one."
"So, what's your name?" He asked again and I said. "I'd tell you when you tell me what's been bothering you."
He nodded. "I could just lie and you'll still tell me your name you know."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm trying to help here so don't pull off any joke."
He smiled again. "Okay"
Alright, that was surprising... I thought he'd make it difficult for me.
He turned his face away and began. "Imagine you have this boss that sent your friend to kill someone...but your friend had something...uhh emotional to attend to. So he begged you to kill the person for him." He wasn't even scared to tell me all of this.
"What's so important that you won't do what your boss sends you to do?"
"His mom was coming back from Algeria that day and he hadn't seen her in years."
"Oh okay...that's something."
"Plus, he couldn't do the mission another day cause everything was planned perfectly for that day. So, you decided to help him...but you made a mistake by hitting the target in the wrong place."
What? "Isn't it an important mission? Why'd you make a mistake? How's that possible? Only if you're not skilled for the job but obviously your friend trusted you so he knew you were perfect for the job." I chuckled lightly.
He laughed for a short while. "Because you were gawking at your target's sexy breasts."
The fuck. I began to laugh hard and he joined me. "What the hell? Oh you weren't expecting a sexy girl."
"I mean! Like no target is that beautiful. That was fucking unexpected."
I laughed harder. "Oh well."
He then continued. "You know when you make a mistake...there's going to be a punishment cause your boss isn't that nice."
"Woah. Killing her was that important to your boss?"
"It was but with your carelessness...you've put everyone in danger. Everyone's getting punished because of you." His voice became softer. "And your punishment is even the most impossible of all."
I placed my hand on his. "What's your punishment?"
He looked at me. "Why am I trusting you with this kind of a dangerous information?"
Then it hit me too. Why was he telling me so much information? I'm still a stranger you know. "I don't know..." I stammered. I had no ulterior motive even though he was very close to the people that could be responsible for my dad's demise.
I really had no plans on using this information against him. "Because I offered to be a listening ear." And this was the truth. He thought for some minutes and kept on.
"My punishment..." His voice was low but faster. "...is to kill my target...all on my own." He said and tightened his fists till they turned red. I turned away and thought for a while.
He thought his punishment was impossible but I could actually help him. Remember, I knew who his target was. Jennifer Casirk! But if he figured that I knew the identities of almost all the people he was talking about, would he still trust me? Or worse kill me?
Hey guys! Don't forget to vote! Love ya!
