To be honest, why am I even so hurt? That saying of 'don't put your trust in anyone but God' really slapped right now. To think that I expected so much from a stranger was very stupid of me. I just had to be blank with myself.
I can blame him for inviting me over for the dinner but to be frank, he wasn't aware of the whole shooting from the start. Yeah, I saw a picture of El on his table and the gunmen were El's but with the way he kept blasting my phone with calls, I could tell that he didn't know shit.
Fuck! I was making excuses for him in my head. Well, what else could I do? I didn't want to go back to my mom's ward cause she was sleeping. Daniel was in school so I literally had nothing to do but to deal with my thoughts.
I decided to go to the top floor so, I could clear my mind of all these unnecessary thoughts. I had more things to focus on. Priority Teresa! Priority!!
Definitely, I wasn't taking the stairs so, I walked towards the elevator. I pressed the big button just in between the two doors and waited for it to open. After a few seconds, the doors opened and I got in. Luckily for me, it was empty. If I had friends, I would have taken crazy pictures with them in that elevator. I chuckled.
Quickly, Baldwin rushed inside the elevator before the doors could close. I rolled my eyes.
"Hi Teresa." He said and I rolled my eyes for the second time. "What floor are we going to?" He asked looking at the buttons which had on them each floor's number.
"We?" I asked in disgust.
"Top floor?" He asked and I wondered how he figured where exactly I wanted to go. It was like he could read my thoughts.
"What do you want Baldwin?"
"The elevator is waiting." He said and I nodded. "Yeah top floor."
"Aha! I knew it! You want to go clear your head!"
"Bravo." I said sarcastically.
He pressed the right button and the doors closed. I wanted to be silent but trust Baldwin on this one lol.
"Teresa...you've got a tissue?"
"No!" I replied sternly.
"Sheesh. Calm down. It's just a question. I know you're mad at Dylan but you can't be mad at me."
"You didn't see me in the lemo with Dylan after the whole incident and you didn't care."
He chuckled. "I did. As unbelievable as it sounds...even Dylan."
I groaned. "Baldwin I'm not doing this."
"You didn't let him explain himself."
"He was gonna explain shit and I'm not down for that."
"No Teresa...it's not shit. It's the truth...a really sad truth."
I shook my head. "See...I don't give a fuck!"
He began to laugh like a mad person which wasn't surprising but, I wanted him to just shut up. "What's funny?" The doors of the elevator opened and I walked out. Of course he followed me.
"I'm laughing cause you're so naive."
"You have no rights to call me naive."
"What happened to freedom of speech?" He asked.
There weren't much patients or health workers on the top floor which was just perfect. I just needed to find a space where I would seat alone. I turned to Baldwin who was smiling.
"Fuck freedom of speech. I need to be alone and I don't want you following me around. I've got better things to think about. Things that are more important to me so please, I know you love your boss and you want to make things right between us but I don't care."
"You don't care...but what happened to you wasn't fair and in my opinion you deserve an explanation."
He was right cause deep within me, I was hurt. I never deserved that treatment. I found a deserted stool and took my seat. People wondered what I was doing there but I didn't care.
"Okay Baldwin. You win." I gave up.
"Dylan didn't want you to go through any of that."
"Then, why didn't he do anything about it?"
"Because he's sick."
I was surprised. "What? How's he sick?"
"Yes Teresa, he has few problems both from growing up and right now."
"I don't understand Baldwin. Explain further." I leaned forward in anticipation of what he had to say.
"Have you heard of PTSD?"
I squeezed my nose. "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?"
"Very good Teresa...very good." He smiled in a very mischievous way. This man was the weirdest person on earth. Trust me.
