"Did you hear!?" Stacy shrieks as I get out of the cold interrogation room. I give away high-pitched laughter. The smile on her face is reaching ear to ear.
"Oh, you mean about the alien?" I twist a lock of my dark hair around my finger. Chuckling lightly for no apparent reason.
Everything is fine, there's most likely a good explanation to all of this, I try convincing myself.
"Yep, I heard," I confirm with wide eyes. I quickly glance behind her, preparing my defense if my father would roam out.
Stacys jumping up and down, the pink dip-dyed ponytails on her head follows the rhythm.
"It's amazing isn't it?" She is applauding the air which makes the bracelets on her arm clang as they touch each other. "Your mom would've been thrilled!"
"She sure would." I agree to turn away to flee before my father burst through the door.
He won't be happy about this. I've betrayed him once in the past and he's not the forgive and forget the guy.
I manage to get to the other side of the hall but the light footsteps after me indicate she won't let me escape. I usually admire her babbly personality but right now I'm in a bit of a situation.
"So we found something interesting in his DNA thought you should know." She's nabbing a huge folder against my arm. I stop with a groan, giving her the victory.
"Just tell me." Stacy leaps around, standing in my field of view. The grin she's tossing at me is brighter than the sun.
"Okay I'll do it, but just because it's you."
"Just get to the point Stace." I'm shaking my head, inhaling deeply.
"So his DNA result came back and it said that he's eighty percent human right?" I'm nodding as she pauses. "The other percent isn't giving away any matches which indirectly tells us they have other species. I think we need to dig deeper you know? We need to examine that beautiful brain of his." She just told me nothing....
Stacys' blue eyes are gaping dreamingly at me. "I'm sure it'll give us the answers we need."
I'm disgusted by all these examinations being done under this roof, but I know better than to speak my mind. My thoughts aren't something they'd listen to either way. I'm just a pawn in the game and there's nothing to do about that.
Everything is done for the sake of humanity, I'm always told.
"I'm sure my father is on top of it," I reply, hoping she won't request my assistance on this. "As the leader of a secret facility, he'll probably have the man chopped up in no time." I'm only partly joking.
Stacy's mouth opens wide, probably to give me a lecture on my duty's as Clermont's heir. She didn't see what I saw that day, can't blame her until she knows the truth. About the real work at the underground.
"Gianna!" My father grunts he's bursting through the door. I get the craving of just galloping away.
While holding my breath I take a few seconds, standing my ground.
Stacy is giving me an encouraging look.
Slowly I spin around to face him.
My father is trampling towards me with steps that smash loudly on the floor. My insides tie up in a firm knot.
"I don't know what that was," I'm trying to hold a calm posture even though my body wants to crumble into tiny little pieces.
Mr. Clermont has a way of making one feel small, useless, unworthy of anything and everything.
