"I'm not going back, Carter," I explain after he clarifies that he's not here in my father behalf. He looks so worn out, those hazel eyes are filled with exhaustion.
I can't help but wonder what's going on at Area 31. His looks reveals its been a handful.
"I'm not asking you to, just return that thing." Carter grabs my hands while giving me a pleading look. "You don't know what you're getting yourself into."
He seems worried and the way his voice is so soft makes me feel like he cares about me.
But I don't want to be an observer of my fathers work, I don't want to just accept it when my whole being screams that it's wrong, I'm done with that.
"I can't support that organization any longer Carter. Believe me, I've tried." I yank myself away from him, creating a gap between us. "What's being done at the underground, is simply not right."
"Everything is done by the sakes of humanity Gianna." He counters with a desperate tone that sends chills to my heart. "And you don't know what he's capable of or what he's done. Don't be a fool."
"I'm not blindly trusting him there are just some things I need to figure out."
"What things Gianna? Tell me what has he manipulating you to believe?"
"Did you know there are more of his species here on Earth?" Is that why my father hasn't found me yet? Cause he's busy retrieving them?
"There are a lot of things you don't know Gianna, they don't concern you." Carter takes a step towards me again and I instinctively take one back. Those dark eyes stare at me, trying to predict my next move.
"Tell me." Carter tucks his hands away in the pockets of his jeans in a defeated gesture. "I don't like being held in the dark." I continue.
"I just found this information out, so don't take it out on me." My pulse is starting to beat heavily as I'm preparing myself for the worst.
"I found out a few days ago, before then I was held in the dark as well. Or I'd tell you, believe that please." He hesitates and starts to stride back and forth in the enormous hallway.
"They have visited our planet before, we don't know for how long its been going on since they refuse to talk. The torture doesn't bother them at all." Well, apparently their feelings are numb.
"They have told us one thing though, that they're here to retrieve something that's been stolen from them."
"Come with me please. I can explain everything." He says and before I get a chance to protest a voice interrupts us.
"I've met a lot of pricks in my lifetime babycakes." My gaze turns to the silhouette, now appearing behind me. How did he get out?
"But you must be a fucking cactus." A chuckle escapes his swollen lips.
Kayne shirt has been ripped open so you can see his skin that's been decorated with bruises. His dark hair is in a storm-like mess but of course, he's wearing a cool expression.
"What the fuck?!" I let out in shock.
"Oh, don't play so worried Gianna, your friend Dexter told me all about you giving him the blessing to torture me."
"Stay away from her." All of a sudden Carter is standing in the space between me and Kayn. I'm thankful, the look he gives me isn't one of his usually playful once.
"So you finally spilled the tea?" Kayn says while snickering.
"I told her about your people vandalizing our planet." Carter spit out in disgust.
