Failure and Success

-From your POV-
I swiftly land on the roof the pub. I set my broom down and take a deep breath. I hear a drunken laugh coming from the alley way behind the pub. I walk over the edge overlooking where the laugh is coming from and see a woman, in her 40s, brown hair, having a smoke. There's a man with her who's around the same age but with her black hair. She continues laughing and talking to the man in between drags from her cigarette. "Hello, mother." I mumble to myself. I see her take another drag of her cigarette before turning and looking upwards at the roof. Shit, guess she heard me. I quickly step back before she sees me, narrowly avoiding her line of sight.

"Jed, darling, you can head back inside. I'm going in just a moment after I make a call really quick." She tells to the man sitting outside with her. I don't see anything, but I hear footsteps grow distant and then a door open and shut. It goes dead silent for a minute and then I hear footsteps creeping up a nearby fire escape. I take out my wand and crouch down low enough that when she's at my level, I'll be able to catch her by surprise. I see her figure emerge from the shadowy fire escape and climb onto the same roof I was on. She slowly draws her wand out from her coat pocket. You've always wanted to be the supervillain, now is the time. I think to myself. I slowly stand up straight and begin walking slowly towards her.

"Mother." I say in a cold tone. Her eyes widen and her hand that's holding the want drops to her side.

"Y/n? My y/n?" She asks. Her words make my blood boil. I didn't belong to her. She was merely a biological maternal figure, not a mother. But for the sake of my plan, I play along.

"Yes, it's me. I got tired of my wretched father keeping me from seeing you." I say in a false sympathetic tone. She begins to slowly walk towards me until we're about 6 inches apart.

"Look at you. A sorceress? Oh God it's been so long. Slytherin? Gryffindor? Which house??" She asks enthusiastically. I chuckle and shake my head as I look down and begin walking in a giant circle very slowly.

"The only noble house, Slytherin, of course." I begin. "But mother, I have become one of the most powerful pupils at that school." I say. I hear her gasp and see her eyes light up from the corner of my eye.

"Oh y/n, I knew you'd have it in you! I have some spell books at home if you're int-" she speaks so excitedly, but just the way she's now wanting to bond is enough to make my blood boil even more.

"In fact, I've become so powerful I learned what horcruxes are." I say, now twiddling the end of my wand in between my thumb and index finger. The smile from her face slowly reduces to a concerned grin.

"Really? I always wanted to study them more but never had the chance." She says nervously.

"See thats the thing, mother." I begin walking back to her so we are a foot apart. "You were studying horcruxes, hence when you wanted Eva and I dead. And for what? For 'Jed'??" I feel my temper now starting to shorten exponentially. Her eyes begin to grow wider and her posture begins to shrink.

"Y/n, I was in a bad place. I tried to do some very bad things but I promise, I'm different now! I would have never succeeded." She pleads out. I look down at the ground and chuckle again before looking back at her. The smile I had quickly fades and turns to something much more menacing.

"You wouldn't have succeeded because you're a pathetic excuse of a sorceress." I spit out. I can see the worry and horror on her face slowly grow as she stays frozen in her spot.

"Please Y/n, you have to forgive me! I'm your mother, you love me!" She pleads out.

"No mother, I don't believe in love. The only useful feelings a person can have are anger and curiosity." I say as I draw my wand out and hold the tip of it up to her jawline. "I don't believe in forgiveness, only vengeance." I say calmly, my wand still pressing into her jawline. She quickly makes a maneuver with her wand, snapping it out and poking me in the ribs with it but I quickly disarm her. "Expelliarmus!". With her wand now gone from her hands, the fear and horror sinks back in on her face. "Pathetic. You fail at everything." I take another step closer so we are now six inches apart from each other, face to face. I move my wand down from her jaw to her heart. "See, the only thing is mother, I don't believe in failure. So I end it here." With a quick spell, dark green and black waves come out of my wand and blast straight to her heart. She drops to the ground in agony and lets out a yell. For the spell to kill her off completely, I hold that stance for a few moments until she finally stops moving.

I kneel down on the ground next to her now lifeless body and lightly touch the serpent ring to her heart. I watch as the eyes of the snake light up, now full of life. "Now time for Jed." I stand up and walk back over to the edge of the roof where I know Jed would be waiting on the ground below. It had been over ten minutes and my mother hadn't gone inside like she promised, so that coupled with her screams would make any reasonable man suspicious. I peer over the edge and see him looking in all directions. There's no point in giving him a length monologue like I did to my mother. I don't know him and he doesn't know me. It's a shame, really. Had he gotten involved with any other home-wrecking woman, his life might be spared. I raise my wand again and repeat the death spell I used on my mother and direct it towards Jed. I make his death as quick and painless as I can. He puts hand over his heart, grabbing at it and falls to the ground. To any unassuming person, it seems like he had a heart attack. I quickly drop down to the ground and hold my necklace to his heart and watch as the energy pours into it. Temporarily lighting up the S charm similar to how the snake eyes lit up. Now that my mission is done, I walk back to where I left my broom and mount it. Guess the time was now.

When I got home, I went into the bathroom right away and showered. Something about the threat of her being gone from my life, my dad's life, and my sister's life felt relieving. I don't feel bad for her. She was an evil woman who didn't have the balls to back it up like I do. And I simply cannot have that big of a disgrace in my bloodline, waltzing around.

I get out of the shower and go into my room. I start toweling my hair but am interrupted by a tapping at my window. I open it to see the same black owl waiting impatiently for me to sprinkle seed and take the scroll. I do just that and sit on the foot of my bed to read it.

Y/n,
Pleased to let you know that I have found a brilliant scheme to pull off regarding my father. I can't wait to tell you all about it in detail, in person, when you come back to Hogwarts. How did your mission with your mom go? Did you get both horcruxes? You're greatly missed.
Your dearest frenemy and favorite pen-pal,
Tom

I smile at the simplicity of the letter. "Your dearest frenemy and favorite pen-pal." I repeat to myself with a smile. I liked when Tom made jokes. It was a refreshing feeling. I sit at my desk and begin writing.

Tom,
I just got back from 'the mission' when I got your letter. Everything went perfectly fine. My mother is now dead- and her estranged boyfriend as well- meaning I have two horcruxes now. I felt a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Now that I know I've removed all trace of that pathetic and failing wench from her ever interfering with my future.  I can't wait to be back in Hogwarts to see you. Only two days left.
Sincerely,
Y/n
P.S. I'm glad I'll be back in time to celebrate your birthday with you.
I hand the letter off to the owl and close the window so I can get dressed and go to sleep.
