-From your POV-
The triwizard tournament was in 3 days meaning Draco and I were taking a LOT of time to prepare. We had combed through a bunch of forbidden texts and had been sending letters back and forth to our fathers picking up small bits of information about putting people, especially powerful sorcerers, into trances. We had also been meeting in the secret room behind Tom's back. Tom is smart, so I expected him to notice, but recently he's been secretive as if he was working on something of his own. Normally, I would be nosy and start snooping around him to figure out what it was, but I had to focus on pulling this off right and I had been taking advantage of his absence by working with Draco.
I had just finished putting my uniform and robes on and was getting ready to leave my dorm. Viv was still sleeping so I was making sure to move quietly; I had no idea if she had a temper like Tom's (being that in a way they were related now) but I didn't want to find out. I put my bag over my shoulder and then opened my door and nearly jumped out of my skin. Draco was standing in front of it, with his fist still in the air as if he was about to knock, and holding a small bag in the other hand. I slammed my hand over my mouth so I didn't scream and wake up Vivian. I quietly closed the door behind me and stepped into the hall. "What the hell was even that?" I ask him in a whisper-shout.
"Well, I was coming to say Happy Birthday and give you this." he says holding out the bag. I felt my eyes widen and my jaw drop.
"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY?" I shout as we continue walking to Hagrid's class together- something I would not be caught dead doing.
"Yes? How could you forget your own birthday??" he asks. I turn to him and scowl.
"Oh as if I haven't been busy." I say with an eye roll before looking into the bag. My eyebrows go up in confusion as I see a smaller box inside.
"Don't open it here." he says in a serious tone, grabbing hold of my arm. I look at his hand and then at him and he quickly realizes that he's holding onto me and lets go. I consider going against his words, but he seems serious, so I just fold the bag shut and tuck it into my backpack. "So did you really forget your 16th birthday?" he asks after a minute of silence.
"Well obviously." I say. He just lightly snickers to himself and then reaches in his bag again.
"Not sure why you slept through breakfast this morning." he says as he hands me a breakfast pastry he had wrapped. I looked at it and then looked at him before unwrapped it and started eating it.
"Draco, if I knew any better, I'd say... you're being friendly to me?!" I exaggerate.
"Draco? Not Malfoy??" he asks me smugly. I roll my eyes and elbow him.
"Don't get used to it." I say as I continue eating and he laughs.
We get to Hagrid's class and go our different ways. He hangs out with the other idiotic boys from Slytherin and I go and stand by myself so I can get a break from being surrounded by morons all day. The class goes by and Hagrid spends half of it lecturing what happens when you don't listen to him (he was talking about how he had a bunch of over sized children chasing lizards with wings around the courtyard yesterday) and then moved back to talking about these animals. This time, I actually paid attention.
They were called drexels; they were essentially mini-dragons. Instead of blowing out monstrous flames though, they could breathe out whatever you charmed them to do. He showed us an example by charming one to breathe out snowflakes. Everyone in the class began clamoring as they watched snow flurry out of the mouth. He then showed another example by having one of them breathe out this weird purple gas which he revealed to us was a knockout gas after one of the Gryffindors passed out.
