Early Morning Talks

When Scott woke up, he was disoriented for a moment. He was in a bed he didn't know and he wasn't alone, judged by the brown locks which were tickling his arm. He looked down and smiled fondly when he saw that Avi was close to him. They were both still under their respective blankets, but Scott could feel Avi's warm breath on his neck and it was a good feeling.

The blonde didn't want to move at all, but then, all of a sudden his alarm went off. "Shit..." he cursed and grabbed his phone to silence it.

"Hmm?" Avi hummed as he stirred beside him.

"It's okay, Avi, that was just my alarm" Scott whispered.

"Mmhm, time?"

Scott chuckled softly. "6.15," he said. It was his usual time, he had to be at the studio at 8.30 and usually left the house at 7.15 to be on time.

"Too early... sleep" Avi grunted back.

"Mmhm, you sleep," Scott said and put his arm loosely over Avi's body.

The musician sighed and smacked his lips before apparently drifting off again.

It took Scott a moment, but soon, the blonde was sleeping tight again, grateful for some more sleep.

Avi, however, was only dozing and, after a while opened his eyes to look at Scott. He smiled when he noticed that they were closer and surprisingly didn't have any bad feelings about it. Scott had made him feel welcome the other night, showed him that his feelings were valid. With Scott, Avi just felt warm and comfy.

Even in this situation when Avi had finally noticed that he had gotten rather close to Scott during the night, the blonde hadn't pulled away. Instead, he had put his arm over him, and Avi once again knew that Scott was fine with it.

The bearded man didn't want this moment to end, he wanted to stay in Scott's arms for a while, wait for him to wake up and just talk to him. But he knew that they needed to get up, he needed to return to his job, which for the moment only consisted of promo work and occasional practices for the upcoming tour. Not his favourite part of his career, but it was part of the deal and Avi had accepted it.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Avi looked up when he heard the soft voice of the blonde man beside him and smiled. "Just thinking about last night..." he said softly

Scott smiled. "Good thoughts?" He asked.

Avi hummed. "Yeah. Happy thoughts. Thankful thoughts." He shifted a little bit so he was able to see Scott's face. "You?"

"Same," he said softly and pushed one strand of hair out of Avi's face. "But there is also something else I have been thinking about. I didn't want to bring it up last night, because you had so much else you needed to talk about."

"That's true, Scott and I am really glad that you just listened and shared your own view. It helped a lot..." Avi said. "But whatever it is you're thinking about right now... tell me?"

"I just want to know what you think about Friday... about the kiss we shared..." Scott started. "Was it just something you did in the spur of the moment, or... I mean if it was you who kissed me, I really don't know, it happened so fast."

Avi chuckled softly. "I don't know either, to be honest, Scott, but I wanted it. There always was something about you that made me want to be close to you. I'm not good at flirting or anything, but after you came out to me, I thought that I should at least try it. And this kiss... it just happened and it felt so good..." he explained.

Scott sighed softly. "The sound of your voice makes it seem as if there's a but?"

"I don't know, Scott. Am I the kind of man you want in your life? I mean you are out and proud and living your life and I am just me, just Avi, I have social anxiety and it will take ages for me to come out and everything..." Avi explained.

"Oh, Avi..." Scott said softly. "You're so focused on coming out and being out to the world, but I know that it takes time. We've been over this last night and I know about your problems and I accept you just the way you are." He looked at Avi and saw that the bearded man still didn't seem to be comfortable in his own skin.

"Tell you what" Scott began. "We'll take it slow. We'll take our time to get to know each other outside of the friendship we have going on. We'll do things together, explore things together and who knows where we might end up?"

"Do things as in dating?" Avi asked.

Scott chuckled. "Yes," he confirmed. "It can be here, at my place or outside, but whatever we do, you'll set the boundaries. I won't try to hold your hand or kiss you in public. This is your call. If you're uncomfortable, let me know."

Avi took a deep breath. "Can I think about it?"

"Sure" Scott replied. "Let me know when you made your decision."

Avi nodded. "Yeah... and you aren't mad at me because I didn't say yes immediately?" He had to ask.

Scott had anticipated such a question, so he just shook his head. "No. I'll never be angry with you if you need time" he explained. "And however you'll decide, I am your friend, Avi."

Avi nodded. "Good, thank you," he said and then groaned when he heard his alarm. "I really don't want to get up right now..."

Scott smiled at him warmly. "Me neither, but you have albums to sign."

"Urgh don't remind me." Avi sighed but then got up slowly. "Do you want to take a shower?"

"No, I'm good, I think. I'll fresh up at home. We are stopping there, right?" Scott asked.

Avi nodded. "Sure. We'll leave in thirty. I know a place for some good tea and bagels on the way, if you don't mind?"

"No, sounds amazing," Scott said.

"Good. I'll go to the bathroom and see you later? If you want anything from the kitchen, just help yourself..." Avi said before he left the room.

Scott sighed and grabbed his phone once he was alone. Of course, Mitch had texted back:

"Uuuh, staying the night again? Use protection :)"

Scott sighed, but he texted back: "No, not like this. We talked and there were a lot of emotions, mainly on his part... I just had to stay with him for his own good."

"Anxiety? :("

"Yeah. But he's better now, I think."

"How about you, Scotty?"

Scott's fingers hovered over the keyboard and he didn't know what to reply. "I'm okay, Mitch. It's been a lot to process..."

"Wine night tonight? You could tell me everything you can and want to tell me and we'll talk?"

Scott smiled. "Yes, please." He sent the message and then got up from the bed. He reached for his clothes and wanting to be ready in time for them to leave.

Fifteen minutes later, the two men got in Avi's car and drove off. The drive over to Scott's place only took ten minutes, which they spent talking about their weekly schedule.

"Here we are," Avi said when they arrived in front of the apartment complex Scott and Mitch lived in.

"Thanks," Scott said a little hesitant. "Wanna come up and have a cup of tea while you're waiting?"

But Avi just shook his head. "I'll wait in the car, listen to the news. You take as much time as you'll need."

Scott nodded. "Alright," he said and got out of the car. He went inside the building and took the elevator up to the fourth floor where he and Mitch lived. "Mitchy?" he called once he opened the door, but there was no answer. His best friend had probably already left for work.

Scott stepped into his room and sat down on his bed for a moment. He took a deep breath and reminisced about the last night. He was glad that Avi finally opened up and that they finally talked.

However, he couldn't help but be a little sad about their talk this morning. He understood that Avi needed time, but deep down he had really wanted for Avi to confirm his feelings and maybe for him to kiss him again. Still, he knew that Avi needed to process everything and Scott was determined to show Avi that they should give dating a try. He just had to be careful to not put too much pressure on the still fragile musician.
