"Such a nice walk, thank you," Avi said when they got back to the house an hour later.
Scott smiled. "You're welcome," he said. For him, it had also been good to be away from the stress and out in nature for a while. They hadn't even talked a lot, they just spent time together.
"Hmm, wanna go to bed? Or... I don't know?" Avi asked.
"What did you want to do?" Scott asked back.
"Grab a cup of tea and look at the stars? My parents don't have a hammock, but we can sit in the Hollywood swing?" Avi asked.
Scott smiled. "That sounds even better than cuddling up in bed."
"Good" Avi opened the front door and immediately tried to make out where his parents were, before going in. "Come on, they should be in the living room." He felt uncomfortable walking past the room where his parents and sister were sitting and talking, but he didn't want to face them. He wanted to just be with Scott, alone.
Once in the kitchen, the two men prepared a can of tea and went outside. Since it was getting darker, Avi lit a few candles before he sat down next to his boyfriend. "Good?"
Scott smiled. "Very romantic," he said and pulled Avi in.
Avi chuckled. "Doing my very best..." he replied and leaned his head against Scott's chest.
"What do you want to do tomorrow? Go see the sequoias?" Scott asked.
"Mmhm, have been thinking about it. See the sequoias, go for a little hike there... " the bearded man replied. "I also thought about taking my parents out to eat something, but I don't know..."
"Let's wait and see about that, Love," Scott said. "Maybe you should sit down tomorrow and talk about everything?"
Avi shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe..." He sighed softly and looked up into the sky. "The stars are coming out... isn't it beautiful?"
Scott nodded. "Very beautiful" he replied. "Do you know about the constellations?"
"Mmhm," Avi said. "Up there is the great dog. The brightest star is called Sirius."
"Ah, okay..." Scott replied. "He's so light compared to the others."
"He is," Avi replied.
They talked about the stars and everything and Scott was glad that he was able to take his boyfriend's mind off his problems for the moment.
"Look!" The blonde said suddenly. "A shooting star."
"Yeah..." Avi said.
"You have to make a wish!"
It was supposed to be a little joke, just something that was usually said, but when Scott looked at Avi, he knew that it had been a mistake. "Avi, Love?"
"I..." Avi shook his head. "I just want them to love me..." Tears were running down Avi's cheeks and he started to pick at a piece of loose skin on his thumb. "Nothing more..."
"Shh, Avi, love." Scott knew that he had to be very careful with him, he didn't want him to slip into a panic attack. "Take my hands, it's okay, Love, I'm here with you."
But it was too late. Avi was shaking like a leaf and unable to express himself with anything else but low whines.
So Scott did what he would usually do in such a situation: He pulled Avi against his chest and rocked him softly with the help of the Hollywood swing they were sitting in. "It's fine, Love, you're not alone, I am here with you, listen to my voice..."
