Scott stayed in his room afterwards. He felt numb. Before listening to the song, he had hoped that Avi hadn't broken up with him, and hoped that he just needed a while to get away.
But now, after he listened to the song for the third and fourth time, he was sure. It was over. Avi had ended the relationship.
The blonde didn't know how much time had passed when his best friend carefully opened the door. "Scott?"
Scott didn't say anything, but he was glad when he felt Mitch getting in beside him.
"Hey..." Mitch said and softly wiped away some of the tears which were still running down Scott's cheek.
"He really left me, Mitchy," Scott said.
"I'm so sorry, Scott" Mitch replied. "If there's anything you need..."
But Scott just shook his head. "No..." He stared at the ceiling but then turned to face Mitch. "I just thought that I had won him over, Mitch. I thought that what I was giving him was enough. I tried so hard."
"Scott this is not your fault and you know it." Mitch completely turned on his side as well and looked at his best friend. "It's rough and it's unfair, but you can't change it."
"I just want to talk to him, Mitch. I need to hear him break up with me" Scott argued. "He can't just do it over a song."
"He probably can't do it personally, Scott. I'm surprised that he managed to do it this way..." Mitch explained. "Don't think I'm on his side, but his anxiety would skyrocket if he was to tell you in person."
"That makes sense," Scott said. He sighed. "I just wish I could be angry with him. Like when Tristan left me because he thought I was cheating on him with you. I could be angry because he was so dumb and thought so low of me. Or Kyle, who actually cheated. But right now I'm just heartbroken."

The next morning, Scott felt restless. Mitch was already at work, but he had left him a note telling him to call if he needed him.
But to Scott, there was nothing Mitch could do. Scott knew that he had to get through this on his own.
Since he didn't have anything else to do, Scott decided to finish a few things for the university. He still had to hand in the report from his internship. It was finished, but he still needed to format it and sent it off.
Even though he knew that it wasn't the best idea, he opened the document and started working on it.
An hour and a half later, he was finished and the report was mailed over to his professor. And even if it only was an internship report, it seemed huge, especially because Scott wasn't sure whether he would continue working for Fantasy.
He opened his mail programme and started writing a mail to Esther:
Dear Esther,
I just wanted to let you know that I wish to terminate my contract with Fantasy. I don't know if he told you already, but he sent me a song yesterday and broke up, so I don't think that I can continue to work with Fantasy.
If there's any additional information they need to terminate the contract, let me know.
I thank you for all you did for me during my internship and I wish you all the best for you and your baby girl.
Take care.
ScottScott read through the mail twice and even if he didn't like how it sounded he just sent it off.
What he didn't expect was that his phone went off only two minutes later. It was Esther.
"Yeah?"
"He did what?"
"Excuse me?"
"Avi. He ended your relationship?" Esther sounded out of breath.
