Invitation

Two days had passed and Scott hadn't heard from Avi. He had called Esther, but she only told him that Avi was okay and out of town for the weekend. She had also told him that she had asked Avi to call him but that he needed more time.

Of course, Scott had accepted it. He wasn't even angry at Esther, he just wanted to see Avi in person. He knew that he might be seeing him the next day at work, but there would be people and he'd rather talk it out beforehand.

"You're doing it again, Scott."

Scott looked up from his nails and only then noticed that he was picking them again. "Oh sorry."

Mitch sat down next to his best friend and shrugged his shoulders. "No need to apologise, Scott. You're not ruining my nails."

Scott sighed. "I know..."

Mitch smiled at him. "Still waiting for him to call?"

Scott nodded. "Yeah... I mean I might see him tomorrow, he has to sign the first few thousand copies of the EP and I am helping with everything. But there will be people and I have a feeling that we won't have time to talk. I don't even know if he wants to talk to me."

Mitch hummed. "I get that, Scott. But the ball is in his field. He knows that you're waiting and that it is his turn to reach out to you" he said softly.

"I know... but" Scott stopped there because his phone chimed. He looked at it and gasped. "He texted."

Mitch chuckled. "Read the text then."

Scott nodded. "Am at it..." he mumbled before he focused on the long message.

"Dear Scott, I am sorry that I kept you waiting for so long. I just needed to get out of town for a few days. But I talked to Esther and I reckon she told you that I made it home safe. She also told me that Mary took you home after the shoot.
I am sorry for leaving you behind. It was wrong, but I had reasons. Reasons that I don't want to tell you over a text, but in person. For now, I just want you to know that it wasn't about you. I was actually looking forward to the drive home with you and to dinner.
Now... I know that it is already afternoon and you probably have better things to do on your Sunday evening, but I am on my way home right now and if you are free I would like to invite you to dinner at my place? I don't have time for anything fancy, but maybe a nice steak and some baked potatoes from the grill?
Please let me know if you have time tonight. I would like to talk to you as soon as possible, I want to explain to you what happened. And I want to apologise properly, not just over a lousy text. I understand if my actions have hurt you, Scott. I messed up. I just... don't want to lose you.
Avi"

Once he had skimmed through the text once, he turned his phone so that Mitch could read, as well.

"Oh wow..." Mitch said.

"Hmm?"

"It seems to me as if he is very insecure..." Mitch replied.

"Yeah... he..." Scott stopped when he realised that it had probably a big effort for Avi to reach out to him. "He tends to be." Scott smiled slightly.

"What are you going to do now?" Mitch asked him.

"Text back" Scott simply said. "Mind if we take a raincheck on wine night?"

Mitch chuckled. "Not at all."

"Good..." Scott said and started typing:

"Avi,
I am so glad that you texted. Thank you for your invitation. I am free tonight. Just let me know when and I will be there. I want to talk to you, too, not just because I want to talk, but also because I love spending time with you.
And I forgive you, Avi. I still would like to know what has upset you that much, but just know that you're not going to lose me.
I'm looking forward to seeing you again, Avi.
Scott"
