Scott made it to the studio a little earlier the next day and was surprised to see that Kevin was already there.

"Hi, Scott, how are you?"

Scott smiled brightly at him. "Really good, actually" he replied.

"Did you have the opportunity to review the songs yesterday?"

Scott nodded. "I did" he said. "It was really interesting to listen to them and find little details that aren't all smooth."

Kevin smiled. "Good. Maybe we could just start working, Avi will be a little late, he is stuck in traffic. There was an accident on the highway."

Scott furrowed his brows. "Does he live out of town?"

"Not far... It's just that he tends to take his new music into his cabin which is out of town. This is why he left earlier on Wednesday and is only returning now" Kevin explained patiently. "Now... where should we start?" He looked at the list of songs on his computer. "Oh I would love to hear your opinion on this one." He turned on a song and Scott sighed when he heard that it was Chains.

They listened to it and Scott was still amazed by it.

"What do you think?" He asked when the last chords had faded.

"Honestly? I am impressed. I listened to it yesterday and straight out bawled. It is so dark and heavy and still beautiful" Scott explained. "I wasn't even able to find anything that didn't work out for me. I especially loved how he used his voice, it was dark and haunting for the most part but then got higher in the bridge, just like a cry for help."

Kevin nodded. "Yeah, I get that" he said. "It was hard to record that song."

"Yeah?" Scott asked, wanting to know what they did.

"Mmhm..." Kevin said softly. "I mean the song did something to you when you listened to it for the first time and it did something to me, too and to Avi of course."

"Where does it all come from, Kevin? I mean the pain and the darkness?" Scott asked.

"I-"

"Hello, sorry I am a little late, traffic was horrible and I just had to stop to get some tea." Avi set down the tray one the little table and gave Kevin a cup. "Your favourite, as always. And for Scott we have something fruity, this time with coconut and passion fruit."

Scott smiled at him. "Thank you very much" he said and took a small sip. "Mmhm, that's very good."

Avi smiled. "That's good. Anyway, shall we get straight to it? Did you already start?"

"Yes" Kevin said. "We started with Chains and figured that we don't need to change anything?"

Avi nodded. "I agree" he said. "Sadly, this was the only song I was entirely sure about."

"Scott, too, I saw some of his notes and there's a lot" Kevin said jokingly.

Scott expected a comment from Avi, anything mean, but the musician just nodded. "That's wonderful. Let's get started?"

They spend three hours revising and managed to finish only two of them, because Avi needed to rerecord some harmonies.

"Oh, I definitely need a break now..." Kevin said. "I'll be back in a few, Leigh called and I need to go to the bathroom."

He got up and left Scott and Avi alone.

"Do you want a cup of tea, Avi? I, um... got some new teas yesterday" Scott offered, testing the waters, because he didn't know in which mood the brunette man was.
