Kabanata 23:
Bliss
"I'm sorry about your mother. I'll talk with her." marahang sinabi ni Daddy habang hinuhuli ang ibang takas ng buhok na dumikit sa pisngi ko dahil sa pag-iyak. He softly tucked it into the side of my ears, and I stared at him.
"Do you love me, Dad?" tanong ko. Mabilis siyang napahinto sa ginagawa.
"Of course, Kayeziel! I love you." sagot niya sa marahang tinig.
He sighed and held my shoulder.
I am relieved he has the urge to be with me right now. It's the first time he defied Mommy, and I somehow had a glimpse of hope on that. I'm guilty for harming him for all the nasty words I told him when I arrived here.
My father is getting old. It was visible in the wrinkles on the sides of his eyes and on his hands. All I wish was to reconcile with him. I hate them for all their wrong decisions for me, but I don't want this argument to continue staining our relationship.
"I don't want anyone to hurt you, Kayeziel. I'm ready to stay behind the bar if someone tried to harm you." aniya sa seryosong tinig. Humigpit ang hawak ko sa kaniya.
"Ayoko nito, D-Dad. Please, help me get out of this arrangement." I begged as I held his hand to convince him. He's my only hope right now.
I'll talk with Lyndon. I know him. He's not like this." I can feel my hatred starting to seethe in my skin.
"Your Mom won't do anything to harm you. She knows what she's doing." I gasped in disbelief. Halos mahilo ako sa sunod-sunod na iling.
"Kung ganoon, hahayaan niyo lang talaga siya? Bakit hindi ka lumaban, Dad? I thought you love me?" I spat. Inalis ko ang pagkakahawak sa kaniya. His eyes turned glassy as he watched how I slowly put a distance between us.
"I love y—"
"Then why can't you fight for me?! Why can't you disagree with her! Ayoko nito, Dad! Ayoko! You're selling me to that disgusting man?" I snapped. I looked at him angrily.
"You're no different with Mommy. You can't fail her, right? You can't take to break her rules, so you choose to break me instead!" sigaw ko na nanlumumo.
There's no hope anymore! Why am I so stupid to hope he's going to be my light when he couldn't even shield me all these years from the light of this house!
"K-Kayeziel..." His broken voice called me, and I screw my eyes shut.
"You can leave now, Dad. I don't want to hear your lies anymore. I'm so sick of it." He sighs. He tried to caress my hair, but I avoided his touch.
I bit my lower lip to stifle the sobs. When I heard the door close, I sobbed loudly. I cried all of my pain, but I think this is endless.
I didn't sleep that night. My heart is bleeding, but I can't feel the warm blood, it's cold too.
