Kabanata 18:
Stay

"H-Hello, Tita." My voice shook as I greeted her.

I tried so hard to regain my strength, but I'm just suddenly weak. As if her call is bad news for me. I grabbed the sheets and shut my eyes.

The sun setting on the horizon is also resonating with my struggle right now. As if the orange gleam of happiness within me is slowly shutting down because of her words.

She even risked her life saving me from my family, and I'll just take that for granted?

Before, my only option was freedom. Which I'll have after Tita settled everything. Now I have another option, which is Kairus.

I bit my lower lip. I shouldn't ask her.

"I think you're just too nervous on my call, Kayeziel, aren't you?" Napalunok ako sa sinabi niya. Hindi makapaghanap ng mga salitang sasabihin.

"Sorry, I'm just so excited.

I opened it again and my eyes heated when I saw the wallpaper. Kaming dalawa iyon ni Kairus. It's a photo from our mini outing. He was behind me, smiling as I kissed his cheek.

"I know you're doing well there, Kayeziel. But I'll ask you about that later. My purpose in calling you is what's more important."

"What is it, Tita?"

"I'm done processing all of your papers. Your Visa is already ready for you, including your fake IDs. I thought this would be hard, but I know someone who works behind the government's database, so it was done quickly." I can feel Tita was smiling ear to ear as she announced it. But that confirmation only made my shoulders sag.

You can run away from your family for good!"

My hold on the phone loosened as I lost all my strength.

That's not the announcement I want right now. I just suddenly want to hear a knock on my door, and I'll see Kairus when I open it.

"Hija?"

"T-Thank you po Tita..." My tears strolled down my cheeks. Not in happiness, but in sadness.

What should I do?

A sob slipped from my mouth, and Tita gasped. She probably heard it.

"Oh my hija, hush. I'm too h-happy for you too. I don't want you to experience the same hell I've been t-through." Nabasag ang tinig niya. Waves of guilt assaulted my chest. I know she's doing this because she was in the same situation as where I am right now.
