let's be friends

Chaeyoung is busy with her laptop when Jisoo arrives home that night from her work at the cafe. When Jisoo calls her name, she flinched as she does not realized that the elder is already home.

"Unnie, when did you get home?", Chaeyoung asks making Jisoo to give her a curious glare.

Jisoo checks what she was doing with her laptop before answering, "A minute ago I already shouted 'I'm home' but you didn't hear me."

She sits down next to Chaeyoung seeing her editing her design in Illustrator. "Oh, sorry. Maybe I was too focused with my work.", Chaeyoung says as she looks at the time on the bottom left of her laptop screen. It is already 10:35 PM.

"New client?", Jisoo asks as she looks at what Chaeyoung is designing is something different from the one she saw before this.

Chaeyoung nods and says that the client needs a poster for his upcoming charity event next month. As she zooms out to view the whole poster, Jisoo catches a name in it that makes her remembered something.

"Oh, Jungkook. He came today, did he?", Jisoo asks.

Chaeyoung's hand stops moving as she turns to look at the elder. Then, she nods without any reaction while Jisoo was anticipating for her face to give her some reaction to her question.

"So, what did you two do when he was here?", Jisoo keeps the question coming.

"What we did? We talked...", Chaeyoung replies.

"And?", Jisoo wants to know more of it.

Chaeyoung frowns before asking what she meant with 'and' to Jisoo.

"And what else you two did? It can't be just talking.", the elder lady elaborates on her question.

"Oh...we...only talked for a bit before he left.", Chaeyoung answers the same with a little bit longer sentence. Jisoo asks if that was all they did that day. She even asked how long was Jungkook there accompanying her that afternoon.

Because of that, Chaeyoung tells her from the start to the end. She tells her that Jungkook rang her doorbell many times that it bothered her until she came out to shut him. She said that they only talked for less than half an hour before Jungkook left.

When Jisoo asks why they did nothing other than talking, Chaeyoung tells her that she was feeling uncomfortable and awkward with Jungkook. She also says that she was unsure of Jungkook's intention to be her friend when he already know she has DID, a psychological disorder that will only burden people around her.

Jisoo knows that must be the reason why. She just wants Chaeyoung to admit it before she can proceed to advice her.

"Chaeyoung-ah..why do you feel awkward with him? Don't tell me because he's a stranger, I also thought the same before I knew his intention is just to be your friend.", Jisoo wants to know Chaeyoung's reason.

"Because he's...weird. I mean...everyone will stay away from me once they know what disorder I have.", Chaeyoung tries to reason out.

"But you let me and Jin stay around with you.", Jisoo encounters quickly.

Chaeyoung nods, "Both of you are different. I know I can trust you two since you both care about me when I don't have anybody. But he...I don't have trust in him."

"Do you trust me, Chaeyoung? Really trust me?", Jisoo asks.

"Yes, unnie. I trust you and Jin oppa only.", Chaeyoung answers.

"Then, put your trust in Jungkook too. I trust him. I know his intention is good. You know what I think of him? He's a curious person, but at the same time he's caring. He cares about you even though you two just met once and just strangers to each other. You remember the first time you met him?", Jisoo says.

Chaeyoung nods and says about the night she helped their neighbour.

"You remember the next time you met him?", Jisoo questions her again.

The blonde girl thinks about it for a while, "Was it...at the convenience store? He mistook my name there. He thought I'm a Kim, not Park."

Jisoo looks at Chaeyoung in disbelief, "When's that?"

Chaeyoung tells her that it was probably two weeks ago since she did not remember much about it.

"Whoa, okay. Then, do you remember the next time you met him again?", Jisoo asks another question to her.

"I...wait, what is this about? Did you actually know how many times I've met him, unnie?", Chaeyoung starts to feel fishy of Jisoo's repeating question.

"No...but I know you met him once when you weren't you.", Jisoo answers her.

"When?", Chaeyoung asks back as she is wondering which unplanned meeting with Jungkook that the elder knows of.

Jisoo tells her that Rosie met Jungkook one evening and she called him 'oppa'.

"That's not the important thing anyway. The important thing is when he showed that he care..I mean he came just to give you the bread you like. Can you imagine that? A stranger...who only knew you because he helped you one night came to give you a bread? At that time, I was sceptical about him but I understand why he did that. He just wants to know you, Chaeyoung-ah. He...he said he wants to help.", Jisoo tries to assure Chaeyoung about Jungkook.

"I don't need help, unnie. I have you and Jin oppa. That's enough help already. I don't want to burden more people in my distracted world.", Chaeyoung replies as she shuts down her laptop. She has lost the mood to do her work.

"But, what if I get married with Jin and leave you alone here? What if I get a new job far from here and have to leave you behind? What if...okay, those are wrong. I'm sorry but...don't you want to have a new friend, Chaeyoung? A friend who cares about you like us? A friend who can look after you when I and Jin aren't around?", Jisoo still does not give up.

Chaeyoung faces Jisoo and nods, "I know I've burdened you two a lot..."

Jisoo quickly hugs the younger to comfort her, "Chaeyoung, I don't mean it that way. Don't get me wrong, Chaeng-ah.."

"I'm sorry I didn't think of you two, unnie.", Chaeyoung says as she cries in Jisoo's hug. Jisoo might have hurt her feelings with her words. But, she knows she is wrong too. She is selfish. She forgot Jisoo and Seokjin surely have a dream to have a future together. If she is stuck between them, she will always be burdening them.

Even though Jisoo has asked her to sleep together at her room, Chaeyoung could not close her eyes. Her mind still thinking of Jisoo's words. It is not because it hurts her feelings. But, she is trying to think wisely about accepting another person in her life.

As Chaeyoung turns the other way around without making a sound, she slowly takes her phone and looks at the phone number that is recently saved in her contact list. The number which is saved by the owner of the number when she left her phone unlocked this evening. He saved it when she went to the toilet for a while.

'Let's be friends, Jeon Jungkook.'

Right after she sends the message to the number, she tries to sleep again.
