Chapter 83- the fruit of our labour

KOOK POV:

It takes a split second for her words to sink in to all of us. And then I bolt out of my chair, helping (Y/N) into it, her grip is tight on the back of the chair and it takes some effort to pry them away and help her down. I turn to look at the others, Jiminie hyung and Tae hyung are sitting there with their mouths agape but a few moments later they burst into excited chatter- smiles blinding and beaming as they hurry forward to kneel in front of her, taking each of her hand in theirs- enclosing them between their firm supportive grips.

It's the hyungs I'm worried about more. Hobi hyung has got tears coming to his eyes as he shakes Yoongi hyung- who's still looking like he's trying to process the words even though I know he's heard it the clearest. Namjoon hyung looks one second away from panicking and going into a meltdown and Jin hyung is already there- furious muttering, eyes scanning fervently the surroundings, feet already dragging him upright as he grabs his phone, pressing it to his ear and standing in the corner- though his eyes remain trained on the scene in front of him.

I worry my bottom lip between my teeth as I watch Namjoon hyung's face drop to the table, hands fisting into his hair, shaking slightly whilst Hobi hyung chatters excitedly next to him and Yoongi hyung still isn't responding. There's such a blank look in his eyes and I truly am beginning to worry for him.

(Y/N) hunches over herself, a sharp gasp of pain coming out as her hands tremble slightly in hyungs' holds, Jiminie hyung and Tae hyung lean forward in alarm- brushing their free hands down her side to help soothe her, help her through this, provide comfort in any way that they can.

"I think we should get (Y/N) somewhere more comfortable." I say, worrying over the hyung's lowered figures- knowing that the chairs at the table aren't the most comfortable for her during pregnancy and now as she's going into labour, they most definitely won't be.

"I want to get out of these shorts." She mumbles, head rising so she can look at me- a plea in her wide eyes. I nod.

The hyungs separate from her unwillingly and I gently hoist her up, trying to make sure that my movements don't jostle her as I lift her up and carry her to the downstairs bathroom- the quickest and most convenient place to take her. I help her step out of the damp shorts and underwear, gently tugging them down her legs and wiping her clean with a damp towel before dressing her into another loose pair.

And when I've helped her onto the couch, she smiles at me.

"Thank you Koo. You seem the most level-headed at the moment. Why don't you bring the others in?" she asks and I take no time in being prompted- rushing to herd the hyungs in, wanting to be next to her as soon as possible.

(Y/N) POV:

When the others come rushing in, I'm glad to see that Joonie oppa has come out of the daze a bit, eyes a bit clearer and cheeks decorated with an embarrassed flush as he rushes forward. Hobi oppa is just excited, but his enthusiasm and eagerness is infinitely better than the blank look from Yoongi oppa.

"Yoongi oppa, I need you here." I call and it's Minnie who unceremoniously pushes him forward and into the space next to me. My voice seems to stir him out of it slightly and he turns to me with wide eyes- assessing me.

"What do you need?" he asks, and I'm glad to hear a strength underlying his words.

And I know the best way to keep him normal and without being flooded in panic is by talking to him or asking him to do small things. It's a habit I've noticed the others do when he's stressed, they give him little tasks that come with lots of talking- and it helps soothe him.

"I want you to stay by me, I think you're very calming to be around." I say, though I don't miss the affronted look Kookie shoots me from the corner where he's been trapped between Tae and Minnie who are staring in awe and smothering the baby between them with all that energy.
