~~~PREET's POV~~~
"So it's true?" Mehek bhabhi interrupted Asmaara and my conversation. I immediately rose to my feet and swallowed hard.
Haye Rabba, yeh kya ho gaya?
"Bh... Bhabhi?" My voice gave up on me.
"If Jess wouldn't have told me-" she began but Jessica interrupted.
"I didn't tell you anything. You were eavesdropping!" She groaned but bhabhi ignored her.
Mehek bhabhi ran a hand through her hair and came closer to me, "you love him?" She frowned at me.
I found it hard to keep an eye contact with her. I wanted to speak but my lips refused to utter a single word.
"Mehek-" Asmaara tried, placing a hand on bhabhi's shoulder.
"I asked- do you love him or not?" Bhabhi yelled, placing a hand on her belly. Taking stress isn't good for her health.
"Bhabhi I-"
"Yes or no, Preet?" She asked, sitting down on my bed.
My vision became blurry again and I looked away to hide my stinging eyes. A warm tear escaped my eyes but my hand absentmindedly brushed it away.
"So, you do?" A light sob escaped her mouth. I knelt down next to her and placed my head on her lap.
"I am sorry," I mumbled feeling guilty about my most beautiful mistaken.
"Don't be sorry Preet," she ran her hand through my hair, "Chal main daarji se baat karti hu!" Mehek bhabhi gripped my hand.
I looked up at her with moist eyes and blinked a few times to clear my vision. Is she actually saying that?
"Aaj Kal daarji agrees to everything I say. He listens to me," she said, "main bolungi toh woh maan jayenge," she smiled while I watched her with my stinging eyes, confused.
"Come on," she said, pulling me along with her. My heart felt happy again. She is actually supporting me! But, what about Daarji and other family members?
"But please say that if not a Sikh, he is at least Punjabi because if he is not, toh bohot papad belne padenge Yaar," she giggled, opening the door of my room but my feet froze.
She doesn't know that he is not Indian. She probably doesn't know who the guy is. What did Jess tell her exactly?
"Preet?" Bhabhi smiled but my eyes traced back to Asmaara.
I gulped the knot in my throat before turning back to bhabhi, "Woh Pakistan se hai."
I saw bhabhi's smile fading within a second. She slowly let go off my hand and took a few steps back. A frown appeared on her forehead as she blinked a couple of times.
"Tu pagal ho gayi hai Preet. Bhool Ja usse- yahaan teri koi nahi sunne Wala," she cried before stomping off to her room.
My legs felt numb and I found it hard to maintain my balance. I slowly allowed myself to sink to the ground after Asmaara dragged me back inside the room. I don't know for how long I cried silently before dozing off into the world full of silence, peace and love.
