Chapter 44
(Hiro’s POV)
“Akira! Get out of there!” I screamed. Yokai had his bots swarming and holding her. Everybody else was focused on fighting. I was the only person able to save her, but I was too weak to fight and I didn’t have any weapons like the others. I used my gloved hands to pull at the microbots holding Akira, hoping to make some sort of difference, but not making enough of one. The bots stabbed forwards at her. “Akira!!”
I flinched in expectance of her getting wounded, but was shocked to see what actually happened. The microbots froze right in front of her and hovered for a moment, and then drew back away from her. The bots holding her arms released her and moved to her legs. Her dark red wine, faded eyes brightened to a bright, vibrant cherry red. She clenched her fists and glared directly at Yokai.
“You hurt our team! You hurt Hiro!” She hissed. The microbots began leaving Callaghan’s side and forming around her legs, carrying her forwards as if she was the one controlling them. At this point, everyone had stopped fighting and was watching the scene unfolding.
Callaghan fell backwards and pulled back in terror. He watched in horror and surprise as he was left with no more microbots and as she was getting closer. She was staring at him as if she could see him, like she was focusing everything on him.
“H-how are you doing that…?” Yokai stuttered as he pulled back as far as he could go against the wall.
“You hurt the team,” Akira growled in rage. She swung her arm up and a swarm of bots followed, wrapping around Yokai and holding him hostage. I heard a door open and glanced to see Henry, Roderick, and Evan attempt to escape out the back door. Akira moved her other arm and grabbed Henry and Roderick with the microbots, pulling them closer to Yokai. Evan managed to escape.
“Akira,” her name escaped my lips in an astounded whisper. She glanced over to a few scraps of metal and used the bots to pull the scraps over to the villains. There was a blur of black metal and then the bots moved away to reveal the three men with metal wrapped around them, keeping them from moving anywhere. She lowered herself to Callaghan’s eyelevel and then glared into his eyes. His face contorted into pain and he made a small noise.
“S-stop that,” he managed to say. She relaxed her gaze and his face relaxed. She released all of the microbots. Callaghan smirked at her releasing of the bots, hoping to control them again, and then frowned. “What did you do?! I can’t control the bots anymore!”
Before she could answer, her eyes darkened again and she collapsed onto the floor. I rushed to her side and began shaking her and calling her name. She weakly opened her eyes and looked around.
