Chapter 18
(Hiro’s POV)
“The house right behind yours on the map, look at it,” I told. “That’s MY house right there! I hadn’t noticed it, but you’ve been living in the house behind mine this whole time!” I started to chuckled, and then the two of us burst out laughing.
“We’re such idiots!” Akira teased between laughs. Once our laughter died off, it hit me. Why had I never seen her before?
“Akira? Why haven’t we met before if your house has been behind mine all these years?”
“Well, for starters, I moved here 5 years ago. By that point in time, I was homeschooled because of my intelligence and blindness. So I didn’t go out much. We keep our curtains in the back of the house down because I can’t see anyway. I think Lyn brought me to the café once or twice when we first moved here, but I stopped going with her. I’ve only wandered out a few times without her late at night when nobody is on the road so I can explore. I guess that’s why,” she explained.
“Tonight after I fix your eyes and you head back home, open your bedroom window. I’ll open mine,” I suggested.
“That’s a great idea Hiro,” she praised and gave me a quick hug. “While we’re continuing to procrastinate on working on our project,” she teased. “Let’s talk about the plan for tonight. I’m curious and you’ve gotten me excited.” I rolled my eyes and sighed.
“That was supposed to be a surprise too, but fine,” I pretended to be annoyed that she asked. She giggled upon hearing the sarcastic tone in my voice. Her laugh made me smile. “I’ll give you your surprise, Baymax and I will take you on a flight over San Fransokyo, I’m going to show you something else that you’ll love, no you can’t ask. That’s a surprise too. After the flight and second surprise, we’re all going to sit in the garage and watch a movie while eating dinner. After dinner, we’ll do a test on your lasers, and then you and I will take a ride on your hover board where I don’t need to guide you.”
“That sounds fantastic, Hiro,” she leaned over and gave me another hug, causing me to blush. “What movie?”
“You want me to spoil everything, huh?” I teased sarcastically. She giggled and nodded. “I actually don’t know. I was texting the group last night and Fred said he’d bring a movie.”
“Thank you, Hiro.”
“Mmhm. Hey, we should actually work on the project. It’s already 2 Pm,” I reminded. She face palmed and sat up to show she was ready. “I know we discussed a small bot of some sort. We need details though.”
“We can use my batteries for power and hover-tech to give it a way to float without and rockets,” she suggested.
“Cell phone controlled?”
“Sure. So something helpful?”
“That was my thought with why we make it cell phone accessed.” I began to sketch some basic designs.
“Both of your neurotransmitter levels are high when in the presence of one another,” Baymax interrupted. We both blushed slightly.
“I had forgotten he was there,” whispered Akira.
“I have been standing at my charger,” Baymax explained. “I will continue to be quiet while you work.” I rolled my eyes and went back to design planning.
“Camera function?” I asked, starting to get some ideas.
“Security bot!” We both shouted in unison.
“Jinx!” She called.
“What do I owe you for the jinx? I know you’re not a big fan of soda.” I laughed.
“Shush! You can’t talk!” She demanded. She pursed her lips in thought. “Hmm…I’ll un-jinx you for now, but I call dibs on the seat next to you tonight while we watch the movies. Otherwise I’ll re-jinx you,” She laughed. I chuckled.
“I would’ve let you sit next to me without you having to ask. Anyway, for the bot, we can use the scanners that Baymax uses. That way it can identify who triggers it.” She nodded in agreement.
“…Hiro.” I turned to look at her and she had a huge grin. “Picture this. It is stationed somewhere, hovering so it can be placed anywhere, then it senses somebody unknown nearby, triggering it. It turns invisible using cloaking technology and then alerts the owner or owners of an intruder. If the owners don’t give the intruder clearance, the invisible security robot calls the police.”
“You’re a genius! I can design the robot’s appearance and work mainly on the scanners, the communications, the camera, and the layout. You work on the batteries, hover-tech, and the speech to the class. We’ll work together on the invisibility. We can assist each other as needed, but each be the head of the specific parts. That alright with you?”
“Thank you. And yes. Sounds great!” She cheered. I hit play on my playlist for music and pulled out a blueprint.
“Let’s get started on the design,” I suggested.
