A/N: EDIT: Somehow the entire beginning section of this chapter got deleted... So I'm finally getting a chance to add it. Now it's fixed. :)

Chapter 20

(Hiro's POV)

"Ms. Lyn!" She turned back around to lock the door and then spun back around to face the front room. There was a small entrance hall leading to a wide open living room with a television screen, a radio, a carpet, a small couch, and a coffee table with foam around the edges (I assumed this was so Akira wouldn't hurt herself by bumping into it). The other side of the room had a closed door, an open archway leading to what looked like the kitchen, and a flight of stairs. The edges of the rooms were lined with railings for Akira to follow. Everything was clean, open, and organized - plenty of space and not much to walk into. The stair's railing even zig-zagged with the steps to Akira could feel when each step was coming up. On the side of the main room was an extra wide door that appeared to be for a wheelchair. Most things were bright white with the occasional splash of a bright color or the rare dull brown or black.

"Akira, I thought you were staying out later than 5," the airy, sweet voice of a woman came from around the corner in the kitchen. Akira slipped her boots off and left them on the mat by the door. I followed her example and slipped my converse off.

"Yes, ma'am. I am, but I brought Hiro with me to show him where I lived," Akira called back. A woman came around the corner in a wheelchair. She appeared to be in her late 50's. Her hair was long, straight, and grey, wrinkles decorated her skin, she wore thick glasses, and she was thin and frail. She wheeled herself towards Akira and me.

"Oh, you must be Hiro Hamada!" Lyn gasped. "Thank you for accompanying Akira around town and school. That's very kind of you." I nodded.

"Of course, ma'am," I answered. Akira reached over to the railing by the entrance hall.

"You can call me Lyn or Ms. Lyn," she requested. I nodded again.

"Ms. Lyn, if you don't mind, I'd like to show Hiro around our home," Akira commented.

"You're welcome to show him every corner of the place," Lyn answered. She wheeled herself around to face the kitchen again. "I'll be at the kitchen windowsill reading if you need me." She wheeled herself away and disappeared into the kitchen. I looked over to Akira, who began tracing the railing with her fingers to lead herself to the stairs.

"Hiro, are you coming?" She called. I smiled and joined her. She led us up the stairs, which she navigated perfectly with the special railing. At the top of the stairs were 3 doors. The first was thin like a closet, the second was opened to reveal a bathroom, and the third was closed. Her fingers slid across the rail and over to the handle of the third door. She twisted it and stepped into a large room with more rails. I followed her and saw the same color scheme – mostly white with the occasional splash of color. A window with a curtain that faced my own bedroom's window kept a small couch by the windowsill. Her bed remained in the back corner with another closet. On another wall was shelving and several desks. The highest shelves held several bots – some obviously older and when she had first started building, and others brand new and complicated.  The lower shelves held rolled up blueprints in individual cubbies for easier locating. A radio sat on the corner of her farthest desk. "This is my bedroom," she explained.  I chuckled.

"No offense, but that's kind of obvious," I laughed. She smirked and let out a small laugh.

"I guess it is."

"May I open your curtain?" I asked. "Might as well now that you'll have something to look at." She giggled.

"Go ahead." She remained by the door as I walked to her window and pulled the curtains to the side, revealing my window only about 8 yards away. I smiled. Tonight, we'd be able to sit only yards apart and see each other.  I sat down on her small couch. Just big enough for 2 people.

"Akira, I'm on the couch, if you'd like to join me," I hinted. Akira grinned and made her way over and jumped up next to me. "You and I should bot fight sometime," I suggested.

"Only if you want me to destroy your bot," she teased. I laughed.

"Yeah, right. I think it's the other way around," I joked back. We both giggled.

"You're really cocky for a 14-year old," she joked. I laughed.

"Yes, yes I am. So how long have you lived with Lyn?"

"Since my 9th birthday. I was living with an orphanage until I was 7, lived with a foster family, and Lyn finally found me and has taken care of me ever since. Once she adopted me, we moved here to San Fransokyo because she saw how quick I was with school and technology and wanted me to be near a school like SFIT and be in a city full of tech to help inspire me."

"So you've lived with her just as long as you've lived in the city?" She nodded.

"What about you, Hiro? I know you said your parents died when you were three, but did you live with your aunt right away?"

"Yeah. Tadashi and I moved in with her and she raised us."

"Hey, Hiro? When's your 15th birthday?"

"December 16th. So in 13 days," I explained. She frowned.

"And you didn't think it'd be important to give your best friend more notice on these kinds of things?" She teased. I laughed.

"Well, you never told me your birthday," I chuckled. She smirked.

"You're really sassy and a smart-ass, Hiro Hamada," she teased. I laughed.

"So are you sometimes, now teeeell me." She stifled a giggle.

                "March 21st," Akira answered me.

"Hehe. I'm older than you!" I gloated jokingly. She laughed.

"Only by a little bit," she defended happily. We both giggled.

"May I look at your blueprints?"

"Sure, just keep them in the correct order please."
