Seems like we’ve just moved into this house and it’s already been a month. It’s May 26th and it’s Stevie’s birthday. What can you possibly get for someone who has absolutely everything, besides love and affection? We thought of coming into her bedroom in the morning with all of our instrument and playing Happy Birthday, but we know Stevie Nicks a little too well to have gone through with the idea. I don’t know what the guys settled on, but as long as I can remember she’s always been wearing a necklace with a moon pendant, she loves that thing, rarely takes it off. I wasn’t going to make her another one, but I figured I could have a much smaller version of it done to look good as a ring. That’s what I did. I went to a jeweler a week or so a go, he promised it would be done by the 26th. The guy also asked me whether I wanted something to engrave in the golden band. I decided not to, but right before leaving I asked the jeweler to engrave ‘You remain ageless’ inside of the ring. He told me, ‘She’s a lucky lady,’ I told him I was the lucky one to have her.
I picked up my little gift this morning, I’m driving back to the house now. I park my car, go in and nobody is awake yet still, yes our kids included. Gee, guys… I have a cup of coffee. I’m not going to sit here by myself any longer. I head upstairs, carefully open the door to our room and check the time before deciding if it’s okay to wake Stevie up yet. 10:34 am, should be alright. I place a huge bouquet of roses on my side of the bed, but take a seat on hers, because she’s facing that way. I run my fingers through her hair, she stirs, but doesn’t wake up. I wait for another moment, then touch her face and my fingers get tangled in her hair again. She lazily opens her eyes, finally, and stares at me.
“If it’s like 9 in the morning, you should wish you were dead.”
I laugh and shake my head. “No, it’s half past ten already.”
“Lucky you.” She yawns and stretches. She sees the flowers. “Oh, Lindsey…”
“Happy birthday, angel.” I bent down to kiss her.
“Thank you, these are gorgeous.” She leans to smell them. “But you really shouldn’t have. Who wants to celebrate their birthday when they’re that old?”
“You’re not old, Stevie. And I should have. Also…”
“Oh, what have you done…?”
I can’t hide my smile. I take out the little box from inside my pocket. “This is also for you.”
She sits up, takes a look at it, then at me, then at the box again. “Are you proposing or something? I love you, but getting married to you for the third time?!”
I laugh and look at her fondly. “I hope you never get tired of me enough to not keep me around.” I offer the gift to Stevie again. “Well, aren’t you curious?”
“’Course I am!” She takes and opens it. “My god, Linds…” She traces the ring with her finger. “It’s… it’s breathtakingly beautiful.”
“So are you, Steph.”
“Oh my… it must have cost a fortune!”
“You’re priceless to me, so this… yeah, it cost a lot, but…” I shrug. “I wouldn’t have had it made for you if you didn’t matter to me.”
I see her eyes glisten with tears. “Is it just me or…” She looks at her moon pendant.
I shake my head. “It’s the same, just smaller.”
“You’re such a sweetheart.” She throws her arms around me and plants a big kiss on my cheek. “Oh it also says something…” She has that curious look on her face. “You remain ageless… Lindsey Buckingham, I fall in love with you more and more everyday.”
