There was no blond tiny creature next to me when I woke up. I lay for a few minutes until I was fully awake, also listening for voices, but Alex and Sara don‘t seem to be up yet, I would definitely hear them. I go outside and search for Stevie. That woman has a nasty habit of disappearing, hopefully she didn‘t run away from us. I remember that lake and decide to go for a swim and aslo freshen up a bit. Funny enough, I find Stevie there.
My arms crossed over my chest, I watch her and she has no idea. Apparently, she’s also very naked. I fake a cough and she immediately turns around.
“Jesus, Lindsey! You fucking pervert!”
“Sweetheart, I’ve seen you naked let’s not forget that.” I sit down on a wooden bench by the water, she’s neck deep in now.
“You haven’t seen me naked for a while when it‘s so bright though.”
“You’re still very beautiful, Steph.”
“I‘m not exactly skinny as a stick.”
“What I think is that you should quit worrying, you’re gorgeous.” And I mean it. She always has been and always remain the prettiest woman in my eyes. “Can I ask?”
“Go ahead.”
“Do you have anything on, for real?” Stevie shakes her head.
“And I would appreciate if you left, so I can go wrap that towel around me.”
“I was actually thinking of joining you.”
“No!”
I pretend to sulk then pick up the towel off the grass it’s been lying on. “Come here, I’ll spread it out for you.”
“That just sounded overly dirty.” Her laugh is husky and damn do I like it.
“Well, you’re a dirty woman.” I wink. “Come. I’ll look away if you wish, which is absolutely ridiculous, since you are my wife and we have two kids together.”
She starts walking out the water slowly, like some mystical creature, although she always has been one. I spread the towel. “Close your eyes. And no peeking!” I shake my head, it’s like we’re virgins again.
Obeying is not in my nature unless I’m told something by Stevie Nicks, so I do as I’m told. I hear her coming towards me and I feel her in my embrace. She doesn’t take the towel, waiting for me to wrap it around her? My pleasure. So I do that.
“Thanks.” Stevie says, stepping away from me. “You’re gonna jump in?”
“Maybe later, I’ve changed my mind. Since you’re out, it will be awfully boring.”
She rolls her eyes and starts walking back to our tents. I follow closely behind, admiring the view. She was so thin, truly looking sick, when she had that terrible cocaine addiction. I was very proud when she beat it, but that bastard of a doctor prescribed her Klonopin. I remember just how crushed she was, the woman then wasn’t the Stevie we all knew and loved. She couldn’t bear looking at her reflection in the mirror, she did gain weight, but still was beautiful to me nevertheless. And now, the material around her doesn’t cover too much, it starts just above her breasts and stops way above her knees. Her perfectly silky smooth skin is on show and I long to touch it, all of her. Her long blond hair is dripping wet, water drops falling on the grass beneath our bare feet or soaking into the towel.
I realize we reached our destination and Stevie goes into our tent to dress up, at least that’s what I reckoned. “Are you gonna stand out there?”
“Huh?”
She sighs in annoyance. “Get in here.”
I’ve obeyed twice today.
