Twenty three-If the shoe fits
I walk in the door, closing it gently behind me. I hear the rumbling of Axel's car going away as I walk farther away from the door. My bare feet softly thud down the empty hallways as I put my tote away in the cupboard.
I was given a break for a week from Axel, so I didn't have to worry about getting up early. I went upstairs and changed my pants into shorts, but kept the sweatshirt on cause it smelled nice.
"I'm home!" Rhys screams as I hear him walk into the house, taking off his shoes and putting his bag down. I walk down the stairs, smiling when I see his figure on the couch.
"Hey Rhys." I say, sitting down next to him, putting my head on his lap.
"Hey Tal. How did the interview with the two hot men go tonight? Did you get asked out on a date?" I look down, hesitating to tell him the truth.
"I got asked out twice. I couldn't take the offer through." I say, fiddling with my ring. His eyes widen as he takes a sip from his tea, both figuratively and literally.
"Why the hell not! If two hot men would have asked me I would have said yes to both of them!" He explains as I tilt my head, confused,
"I thought that you were straight." He tsks slightly,
"Darling the only thing straight about me is my fashion sense." I nod, I forgot that he was bisexual. He looks towards me,
"Tal, spill the tea! What happened with the hot men." He whines. Rhys depends on tea, without tea he is nothing.
"They were lawyers." He raises a eyebrow,
"So?"
"I'm a witness for the case against Alex. They came to make sure that I was the right person." I sigh, feeling him comb through my hair softly,
"I'm sorry love." He says and I nod,
"It's not your fault." I say, closing my eyes. I hear Rhys humming fourfiveseconds softly. I open my eyes when he is halfway through and look up,
"Why does he ruin everything?" I ask, my voice shaking. He ruined my relationship with Ara and Axel's reputation. Rhys looks at me with pity as he mumbles,
"Let's eat some ice cream, that always makes people happy." He says, trying to divert the topic to something a bit more happy.
He walks over to the fridge and pulls out two tubs of ice cream. One vanilla and one Rocky Road. He hands me the Rocky Road and I snatch it, stabbing the spoon aggressively into the tub.
"Can we watch TV?" I ask, keeping my focus on my ice cream.
"There's a new series called Dickinson. Do you wanna watch that?" He asks and I shake my head,
"Lets watch your favorite." He looks toward me,
"Mean Girls?" He screams and finds the DVD, pushing it in.
While the movie was running I was stuck wondering about Max. I wanted to talk to him, to find out the reason that he cheated on me. I was going to talk to him, no one would be able to stop me.
Rhys pauses the movie and looks at me,
"What's on your mind?" I sharply exhale,
"I want to find Alex and talk to him." His eyes widen as he stutters out a answer,
"U-um okay. I know how much this bothers you so I can try to help."
"Thank you Rhys." I say, stabbing my spoon into his crate of Ice cream.
"Did you hear the new Archie song? It was played on the radio this morning." I say, hoping he would know the song's name.
"Um, yeah. I think it was called blue, blue something. Like ,blue ocean?" I look at him skeptically,
"Why would he write about a blue ocean?"
"Because he's crazy like that?"
"True." I type blue and Archie into the search bar of my phone. What pops up surprises me. The song is called blue crush, and it's making the news.
"The song's called Blue Crush, and it's apparently about a girl that he hated but everyone else likes." I say, biting my lip in anger.
"Looks like we have something to talk about in the group huh?" He asks and I nod, we would have something to talk about.
"Why don't we go find your ex's address?" He asks, getting out his computer. Rhys has a way with computers, that's what got him the job at the observatory.
"Can I help?" I ask, stretching my hand out to get my computer. He shakes his head,
"You already have so much on your plate. Let me help with something." He begs, clacking the keys aggressively.
"Do you want tea?" I ask, wanting to help somehow. Rhys stops what he's doing and sets his computer on his side.
"I appreciate you trying to help, but let me do this. As a friend." He looks at me pleadingly and I groan,
"Fine. But I'm still making tea for the both of us." He nods and I skip over to the kitchen. I place the empty cartons in the sink and grab two mugs, one blue and one rainbow.
I put the tea bags in the water and shut the mugs in the microwave. Rhys's attention seems to catch at the microwave's beeping,
"I take it that the Londonerns never taught you how to make a proper cuppa?" I turn around, leaning my body on the counter,
"Why the hell would they need to teach me how to make a cup of tea?"
"Because your tea tastes like a mouse made it." I gasp playfully and clutch my hands to my heart,
"Number one, how do you know what that tastes like? Number two, Cinderella and every Disney princess did that."
"Are you inferring that you're a Disney princess?" He asks, his focus on the computer. The microwave beeps and I take the scalding cups out of the microwave out,
"I'm magical Rhys. Believe it or not." I say, putting the mugs down. He doesn't reply, so I try again,
"Rhys?" He looks at me with a astonished expression,
"I found him."
