Twenty Six- You Unripe Avacado!

My hands clench on the wheel as I honk the horn, yelling at the driver who merged without their blinker on,

"The heck man? Who peed in your Cheerios!" I yell, slamming my hand once again on Dory's wheel. The car honked back, daring me to continue the battle. I groan, pressing on the accelerator, letting me go past the car.

As I pass the car to my right, I raise my right hand and give the driver the middle finger. The car swerves a bit but then stabilizes. I chuckle, pushing up the rim of my sunglasses as I speed to court.

"Finally," I say, grabbing my keys and phone, exiting out of my car. I look around, trying to find the right building to step into. Ty didn't tell me which building to go into so which one should I try first?

Think Talulah. There are three buildings, most likely organized by which case load they take. Where does sexual assault fall into? I wish that it was the most important but you know the government. Okay, second maybe? Ok, seems right.

I thank a man as he leaves the door open for me when I enter the courthouse. I looked at my watch, 7:30, I was right on time. I end up standing in a line for 5 minutes due to security but all was well since I got to meet with Romeo and Ty.

"Talulah!" Ty says, catching Romeo's attention. He looks up at me and smiles briefly before going back to reorganizing the files. Ty racks his eyes up and down my body shamelessly as I click my tongue, catching his attention,

"Nuh uh mister." I say while wiggling my finger. Romeo puts his files down looking at Ty with a "What the hell?" look.

"What? She looks good." He says, defending himself. I roll my eyes and turn to Romeo,

"Wow. Great job training you're protege." I say, clapping my hands sarcastically.

"But I do have to agree with Ty, I do look good." I say, flipping my hair back. Romeo's eyes widen for a second and he mutters,

"Yes you do." Before going back to sorting out the files. I turn around looking at him,

"I heard you!" I sing out, hearing a soft,

"Damnit." come out from behind me. I walk over to grab some coffee for myself, knowing that because of the trial, I'll have to sit extra long. I grab a disposable cup and set it under the watery coffee dispenser.

"Don't you look pretty." Someone says from behind me. I turn around, nearly whipping myself in the face with my hair, and sigh. It was Alex and he was looking very nice in his suit.

"What did I tell you?" I turn back around to my coffee, waiting for the last of it to extrude. Alex feigns innocence and sips his drink while keeping his eyes on me,

"What did you tell me?"

"I told you to leave me alone, you unripe Avocado!" I scream, immediately covering my mouth. What is up with my responses today? Alex looks at me with an eyebrow raised,

"Unripe avocado. I've always missed your weird nicknames love." He says, trying to push a piece of hair behind my ear. I slap his hand away quickly,

"It wasn't a nickname. It was an insult." I say before throwing my coffee away and walking back to the office where Ty and Romeo were.

"Where were you?" Romeo asks and Ty nods along in agreement.

"Alex was trying to talk to me."

"BEFORE THE TRIAL!" Romeo yells, slamming his hands on his desk. Ty mutters something under his breath and starts to walk out of the courthouse. I quickly grab his collar and drag him back, next to Romeo.

"Stop it Ty! It's okay, nobody saw us." I say and Romeo mutters something while looking at his watch,

"That's not it."

"Then what's the- woah what are you doing Romeo?" I say as his hands grasp around my wrist, pulling me to one of the rooms.

"The judge is coming in two minutes and we need to be there before him." He whispers, as we had just walked into the room and had to be silent. Ty looks at me,

"Just sit right behind us okay?" I nod and sit down, mentally preparing myself to see something unfold.

After the very intense opening statements it was time for the witnesses to be called. I was nervously playing with my glasses, cleaning them, putting them on, cleaning them, then putting them on, until the first witness was called.

"I would like to call Macey Whittrs to the stand." The opposition said. The room is silent for a second as Romeo and Ty converse with their client, Macey.

Macey walks up to the stand defeatedly and sits in the chair. She swears in and the questioning starts, the questions from the opposition are harsh and my imagination runs wild at the questions that they ask her. At the end of the questioning it looks like she was throwing herself at Alex.

Romeo gets up, straightening his suit and tie as he starts to slowly earn back her story and her reputation. I sighed in relief, both for her and Romeo, when the questioning was over.

When he is asked about his witness my name slips out of his mouth,

"Your honor, I would like to call Talulah Simmons to the stand." He says, staring right at me. I shyly get up and move towards the stand, sitting in the black office chair while fixing my skirt.

An officer comes near me with a bible and signals for me to put my left hand on the bible and my right hand in the air. He smiled reassuringly at me, which helped calm my nervous nature and boomed,

"Do you Talulah Simmons solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" I swallow thickly, after this point I can't go back.

"I do." I nod as he pulls the bible away, leaving me to put my hands on my skirt. My hands fiddle with the ring on my neck as Romeo stands up looking at me reassuringly.

"Talulah, how are you related to Max Regald?"

"I- I'm his ex-fiance." I curse my voice for stuttering as he nods.

"How long did this relationship last?"

"Six years. He proposed in the fourth year." I say, palming the cold ring in my warm hand.

"When did it end?" He asks. I was about to respond when the opposing side jumped up,

"Objection, relevance, your honor."

"I'm just establishing background information." Romeo says, the judge nods and I answer the question.

"It ended two years ago. I caught him cheating on me with my then best friends's friend." I say, my fist clenching at the thought.

"Of all your time being with him, had he ever made unwanted advances on people in front of you?" He asks and my memory rewinds back to one situation almost instantly.

"We were walking to a bookstore and he cat called some girl on the street. I thought nothing of it, as the way he had gotten my attention was by singling me out, and not stopping. Even when I said no." I said as my brain plays back the memory again.

"When you noticed what did you say about it?" He asked and I straightened my back, confident in my answer,

"I told him to stop and he just smiled and said that he was joking."

"That's all, your honor." Romeo says, walking back to his table and sitting down. The opposition looks at me with a pale face that quickly returns to a normal color when Alex whispers something into her ear. A smirk covers her face as I internally hyperventilate,

I was screwed.
