I nervously smooth the satin fabric down as I stand in the line that the planners had all of us in. Mainly the planners were just fussing at me, rolling their eyes when I say that I don't understand Korean. Suddenly, a small hand bats my bare tricep,
"Talulah! Stop trying to create a hole in the dress. If anyone should be nervous, it should be me!" She jokes lightly, trying to break the nervous vibe around us.
"True," I say, shaking my head, trying to convince myself that it would be okay. My hands tighten around the bouquet as she shuffles off to the outside of the chapel, leaving me standing alone with Anoona.
My blonde hair starts to itch my bare shoulder as I groan in annoyance. Anoona shifts toward me and raises her eyebrow as if to say what's going on. I turn towards her,
"Do you have a ribbon?" I ask, shifting my hair back impatiently as the guests slowly start trickling in. She shifts an eyebrow and I make a tying motion, trying to get her to understand. She nods and reaches underneath her dress. I violently shake my head, trying to her to not flash the crowd.
A satin ribbon, the same color as my dress is produced from her thigh. She sticks her pointer finger up and turns it in a circle to say turn around. I do as she says and her nimble fingers tie my hair in a half-up, half-down.
"Thank you!" I say, springing up and standing in my given position. One of my hands brushed absentmindedly against the ribbon, remembering how Rhys had taken the time to delicately tie my hair up with the black ribbon.
The priest says something and everyone goes to their seat, the chapel suddenly becoming quiet. Rhys walks down the aisle with the other groomsmen. Rhys's suit stuck out since his was all black, compared to the usual oreo colored suits.
His black satin shirt had tiny little wrinkles since he had ironed horizontally instead of vertically, and his right wrist was adorned with a silver watch as if everything was normal. His fingers were adorned with silver jewelry, which were clasped behind his back as he swung back and forth.
The music starts to play and the flower girl comes with the ring bearer, both of their hands intertwined as the organ blasts the deep notes. The little girl shyly tosses petals all over the red carpet and the boy walks over to Rhys, handing him the rings.
Rhys bends down and pecks the boy's forehead, making sure to ruffle his hair playfully. The boy gives him a bright smile and walks over to what looks like his father.
The orchestra crescendo's out and Minnie walks in, attached to her father. The veil covers her face and the flowers in her hand are trembling. She continues walking up to Kai and they both stand there, waiting for the priest to allow them to kiss.
I smile when Kai puts his hands behind his back and swings back and forth, as he had memorized his speech. Minnie clears her throat and says my name,
"Talulah?" I raise my eyebrows and hurry over to her,
"Oui?" I ask slowly. She hands me her bouquet and pulls out a long piece of paper and starts reading off it. When she finishes the priest clears his throat and I hand Minnie her flowers back, stepping back into my position.
"Do you Jeon Kai take Kim Minkara to be your wife?" He asks.
"I do." The priest bobs his head,
"Do you Kim Minkara take Jeon Kai to be your husband." She nods her head vigorously, causing a couple of chuckles to be heard in the audience.
"You may now kiss the bride."
The two now-happily married couples now kiss, intertwining their lives forever. Everyone starts to clap and I join, letting a few stray tears run down my face.
______________
"Finally," I murmur, rubbing my sore feet in pain. The wedding had finished and I was sitting near the front, on a lovely plastic chair. My feet had finally gotten to take a break from the six-inch heels and I had needed to take a break. Kai walks up to me, wincing slightly when he sees the blisters forming on my feet,
"Ouch." He says and I look up at him, playfully adding,
"Has anybody told you that it's rude to look at a girl's feet?"He immediately turns red and looks away, playing with the flower pinned on his suit jacket. I stifle a chuckle as I call Kail back,
"It's fine Kai. Now would you mind telling me what you're doing, walking around in your wedding?" I question him, side-eyeing Rhys, who was dancing with the small ring bearer.
"Would you mind performing? Rhys told me that you had something prepared." He says hesitantly, swaying back and forth like he did at the altar. I hesitate a little, a bit scared at the thought of not being liked. My hand takes the cross charms and twiddles with it, what's the harm?
"Okay. Let me get set up though." I tell him, internally sighing when I slide my feet into the heels. Kai smiles at me and runs away, towards the stage.
"You can do this Talulah," I mutter, walking up to the stage when Kai beckons for me to come up. I sit down at the grand piano, going through the pieces that I knew in my head.
All that came up was Patricia by Florence and the Machine. How ironic, the one song that perfectly describes my situation. My hands locate the C power chord and I start playing.
The music hits me, fast and bitter. My foot presses on the pedal, trying to ooze some type of feeling and let it leave my body. By the end of the song, I had flatlined singing softly,
"It's such a wonderful thing to love, it's such a wonderful thing to love." I let my fingers ghost over the keys as I play the final notes.
A loud clapping noise follows my performance. I shuffle off the bench and make eye contact with Rhys who has a proud smile on his face. I rush down the stairs and sit back at the table, allowing my nerves to shake off.
A soft song in a language that I couldn't recognize starts to play from the speakers. I clap along slightly as Kai and Minnie step onto the dance floor and begin to slowly swing from side to side.
"Would you care to dance princess?" Rhys steps in front of me, holding his right hand out for me to take.
"Sure," I mutter, taking his hand in mine, feeling the familiar feeling of his rings press against the palm of my hand. I get up off the chair and move with him to the marbled dance floor. His hands go around my hips as my hands circle around his shoulders.
"Follow me Talulah." He mutters and I do as he says, stepping to the side then to the other side. The music ends and he bends near my ear whispering,
"Would you mind following me outside? The party looks to be dying down." His hands walk themselves to the back of my head and I feel the ribbon gently getting pulled out of my hair. The top portion of my hair falls in loose waves as Rhys tucks the ribbon into his pocket,
"You look better with your hair down." He walks away, leaving me on the dance floor alone.
"Should I?" I ask myself softly, looking down at my hands. A pair of small hands push me softly,
"Go Talulah! Nothing bad's gonna happen, trust me." It was Minkara. She constantly reassures me, wanting me to get together with Rhys.
"Fine."
