Fifty Three-Paint Stains
A little more depth to the eyes, a tad bit more highlight to Kai's hair. My brush moves along the canvas in broad strokes, trying to capture the essence of Minkara and Rhys's relationship.
I pulled away from the canvas, holding my brush at eye level to make sure everything was proportional.
"Something's missing," I mutter under my breath, putting my right arm next to the canvas, adding some more highlights. I hum along lightly to I Feel Fine by the Beatles as my hand glides along with the canvas.
I tilt my gaze towards the picture of the both of them that I was using as a reference, what was I missing?
"Talulah! There's an emergency!" Rhys rushes out, putting his palms on her knees, breathing heavily. I dropped the brush in the water, making sure that I wasn't crushing the bristles. I swivel around, looking at a very out of breath Rhys.
"What happened?" I ask, setting the canvas out to dry a little bit. I walk over to the kitchen and let my hands run under the hot water, washing all traces of paint away.
"My parents want to meet you!" He screams, running around the kitchen like a headless chicken. I shrug, that's not that bad, I've met his parents before at their anniversary.
"Rhys, I've already met your parents." I point out, drying my hands on my ripped jeans. He stops running around for a second and shrugs his shoulders,
"I forgot about that. Well anyway, we have to leave in thirty minutes to meet my parents. What were you doing?" He asks, pulling out an apple from somewhere and biting into it. I step aside to reveal the painting and Rhys audibly chokes,
"Is that the painting?" I look at the unfinished piece of work and nod slightly,
"Yes, It's missing something but I don't know what?" I shift all my weight to my right foot and place my arm on my hip, tilting my head slightly. Rhys joins me and copies my pose,
"It looks good to me." He says, ruffling my head playfully. I chuckle and look back at the painting, it was missing something, I was sure of it.
"Now go get changed, princess. As much as I like you in these clothes, I don't think my parents will appreciate getting paint on their car seats." Rhys says, lightly pushing me into the room. I sigh out and check the weather in Seoul, shivering slightly when I read that it's freezing outside.
"What to Wear, What to wear?" I hum while digging through loads of clothes in my suitcase. I pull out a pair of dress pants and a random button up to tuck in.
When I was buttoning the shirt up, I left the first button open, showing the cross necklace open to interpretation. I slip my feet into a pair of black converse and walk out of the room, sitting patiently on the couch while scrolling through Twitter.

All over Twitter, Archie's new song was trending. Be it for the melody, the lyrics that I made, or just the song in general, it was trending. I tighten my hand into a fist and close the app angrily, slamming my phone down on the couch.
"Woah, what happened?" Rhys comes out of the bathroom, his hair really messy showing that I interrupted him when he was getting ready.
"It's nothing." I plaster a smile on my face and shake my head lightly.
"Are you sure?" He asks, raising an eyebrow. I nod, feeling that familiar sandpaper sensation of holding back tears. I hold up my phone,
"My phone logged me out of Instagram," I explain, rolling my eyes playfully.
"Oh, ok. We'll be leaving in 10 minutes, I just need to finish doing my hair." He walks away, leaving me with tears coming out. I put my head in between my knees, trying to stay calm. Should I have told Rhys about Archie?
I dismiss the thought from my mind quickly. He was here for the enjoyment, to get away from all the drama in London, I'm not going to tell him. While I hear humming coming from the bathroom, I eye the unfinished painting sitting on the kitchen table.
Rhys won't mind if I try to finish it, would he? Nah, I think that he'll be fine. I quietly tip-toe over to the easel and start to re-wet my paint.
"Baby's good to me you know she's happy as can be, you know she said so." I start to sing I Feel Fine again, letting my feet tap along to the rhythm.
"I'm in love with her and I feel fine" Rhys comes out of the bathroom wearing a slightly different version of my outfit. But at the first glance, we were matching. I drop the brush and stand up, quickly dusting the dust off my paints,
"We're matching! I pointed out the obvious and he smiled mischievously.
"Did you plan this Rhys?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He pulls his collar up, revealing a new cross necklace, probably from the market.
While he straightens his collar, I take a quick look at myself in the mirror. Did I look good enough? Would Rhys's parents remember me? Anxiety hits me like a truck and bombards my brain with a million what-ifs.
I feel a slight tug at my hair, which snaps me back to reality. I look to see Rhys fondling a loose strand of my hair gently. I turn my head around to see that he has let go of the strand and is rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Sorry princess, I couldn't help it. Your hair looked so curly today!" He exclaims, throwing his hands up in the air and giving me a radiant smile.
"I kept the braid in after Minnie braided it in the shop," I say, gently touching my hair. Rhys lights up even more, if that would be possible, and pulls something out from a kitchen drawer. He moves behind my head and gently pulls a couple of strands of hair out of my face.
I feel a thread-like material go around my hair, it feels very silky against my frizzy hair. Rhys's hands leave my hair and he comes back to my view, lightly caressing my cheek,
"There. Now you look much prettier."
