Thirty-Friendzoned 101
We both sit there, our legs dangling from the childish structure in silence.
"Do you really mean what you said?" I asked. Romeo looks toward me,
"What?" He asks confused,
"That I should talk to you."
"Why would you think that I didn't mean that?" He asks as I look down, playing with my hands.
"Let's say that some people find me venting annoying," I mumble. Romeo lifts my head up softly,
"I would never." He gives me a soft smile, the type of smile that's very rare with him. At that point I knew that I could trust him. I shift uncomfortably on the now-sweaty structure,
"Do you wanna sit somewhere else?" I ask shyly, hopping off the roof.
"Why not?" He says, pulling me towards his car. I end up sitting criss-cross on the hood of the car with Romeo sitting on the roof.
"Today Ara, my ex best friend came to our apartment." I start out, looking at the stars.
"The Ara who betrayed you?" I chuckle softly,
"Yes, that one. She came today, looking for my lyrics."
"Did she have a reason? To come?" He asks, hanging off the roof to turn on the radio. Here Comes the Sun starts playing and I slowly start swinging to the music.
"She said that Archie was in trouble. But if he's in trouble why wouldn't he come himself?" I ask him the same question that I had been asking myself since she had come.
"What did you do?" He asks, his foot thumping along to the beat. What did I do as a response? Did I overreact?
"I sent her out of the apartment." I mutter, adding,
"I think I overreacted." My converses play with the sand that's underneath the car.
"Did she do anything afterwards?"
"She offered me a job offer." I say, taking the cross charm and swinging it from side to side.
"Are you gonna take it?" He asks as I ponder that. I haven't thought about taking the job yet.
"Um, I'm not sure actually. Before, I would have said no, but I feel after talking to you, I feel that I overreacted." I smile,
"Thanks for that." I hop off the car and stretch. Romeo hops off the roof and pats my back,
"You're welcome princess." He gets into the car and drives off without saying goodbye. I tilt my head in confusion,
"What just happened?" I mumble, walking back to Dory and driving back home.
I step into our apartment and fall face first into the couch. I was tired, very tired. Rhys looks at me and chuckles,
"How was your date?" He sits down next to me and rubs my back. I get up and undo the necklace, handing it to him,
"It's yours, you should keep it."
"You sure." He asks reassuringly. I nod and it goes back around his neck.
"The date was okay, he figured out that I wasn't really into him and just let me vent." I mutter and Rhys holds a hand up to his mouth, trying to muffle his laughter,
"You got friendzoned. What was it like?" I crinkle my brows, was this supposed to be a bad thing?
"It wasn't bad at all, he just left me in the park alone." I say softly, wonder why he stormed off at the end. Was he mad? He didn't show any emotions.
"Oh, talking about our situation, you got a video call from the Londoners. Shall we call them back?" He asks with a terrible British accent, causing me to breakout in giggles.
"Are they gonna be awake?" I ask, hurrying to grab the Ipad from the top shelf. I set it up and click the facetime button for the group.
As the facetime app tries to connect Rhys sets down a cup of tea in front of me. I give him a thankful nod of the head and finally it connects.
"Hey Y'all." I wave, hearing them respond as I shift, wondering how to ask them. I exhale sharply, interrupting the small talk that Rhys and the others were having,
"Did you know that Archie sent Ara over here?" I ask, not making eye contact with them. All of them panic as they get caught red handed.
Charlotte starts out, her voice soft as she is trying to comfort a wild animal,
"We just heard about it a few hours ago, that's why we tried to call you. Did you take the deal that she offered you?"
"The one about going to London and writing? Because she had two offers. One, steal the writer's lyrics or two, bring the writer with you." I look at her as Tommy buts in,
"She did what Stargirl?"
"She came into our house and went through our stuff trying to find her songbook." Rhys explains as I finish the last of my tea. Louie jumps up and slams his hands on the table,
"Archie! He probably told Ara to get the songs no matter what." I roll my eyes, that's the Ara we know.
"How did he know that I had a song written in the first place?" I asked. Rhys nodded, knowing that I had a valid point.
"I think when she had dinner with all of us she was talking about how you had a whole song written about a boy." Charlotte says with a faraway look on her face.
"Are you going to take the offer?" She asks as I scrunch my face up, I wasn't sure at this point.
"What's caused y'all to need outside help? Did Archie lose inspiration?" I rolled my ankle as I asked them what I had been asking since Ara appeared for the first time.
"Management has told Archie to stop writing about explicit topics." Louie served the topic fast while sipping what looks like Champagne.
"Ooh, tough blow." Rhys mutters under his breath. I nodded, most of Archie's songs had to do with some sort of innuendo.
"Stargirl, we need you to take this job. Without you we'll lose our jobs." Tommy says, staring into the depths of my heart. I bite my lip as my hands go to my neck, only to remember that the ring is gone.
"You good love?" Louie asks as he notices my breathing get faster. Rhys stares at Tommy as he encased his hands in mine. I hurriedly shake my head and play with Rhys's hands as my breathing comes back to normal.
I shake my head,
"Sorry, just zoned out." I mutter as a bunch of scenarios runs through my brain.
"I'll take the job."
