Fifty Six-Impulse
"So exhausted," I mumble, collapsing back onto the couch. After watching the Avengers with Minnie, she had dragged me to the nail salon to get a manicure for being her maid of honor. When she had finally brought me back, I had continued painting the picture of her and Kai.
Just as I had sunk into the couch and closed my eyes, Rhys bursts into the house, carrying a generous selection of bags in his hands,
"I'M BACK!" He screams. Causing me to groan,
"Oh my gosh." I roll my eyes back into my head. I close my eyes, trying to get some sort of break. I hear the clicking of dress shoes as Rhys sits next to me.
His ringed fingers stroke over my cheeks, caressing my face softly as he chuckles,
"Why do you look so tired, princess?" He asks delicately, tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear.
"Minkara asked me to be her maid of honor." I lean into Rhys's embrace tiredly, clutching on to his blue satin dress shirt. Rhys stills, nothing moving except his chest, going up and down slowly.
"She did what?" He asked, his tone making my eyes snapping open. I stare at him warily, mentally cursing myself out for telling him as soon as she came home.
"Talulah?" He asks again, his voice rising. My hands go to my neck as I play with my necklace, swinging it from left to right anxiously.
"Minnie lost her maid of honor today and came to me crying. I comforted her and she asked me if I wanted to be her maid of honor. I said yes." I say, refusing to look Rhys in the eyes. I keep my eyes trained on the floor, scared of his reaction.
"Good." It comes out of his mouth quickly and I snap my head back up to look into his dark brown eyes.
"What?" I ask, checking his facial feature to see if I could tell if Rhys is lying or not.
"I'm happy for you. Now you can learn more about my culture without watching the Kdramas that my mother watches." He teased me lightly, poking at the fact that I was a big fan of the old lady Kdramas.
"That's not nice Rhys." I frown, crossing my arms and pouting gently. He laughs, his smile blinding me momentarily. His hands come up to my cheeks. Gently pulling at them and shaking my head from side to side.
"You look so cute." He boops my nose when he ends the statement, causing me to wrinkle my nose at the bridge of it. A rosy blush starts to spread up my cheeks, my hands automatically covering it out of embarrassment.
Rhys's hands gently grab my wrist, his silver bracelets jangling when he tries to remove my hands off my face.
"Come on!" He whines like a little kid cutely, stomping his feet on the ground,
"I wanna see your blush!" He cries out in accomplishment when my hands fly off my face, slapping his shoulders on the way down. The door flies open and there lies Kai, with a slight pink hue to his cheeks,
"Oops." I turn toward Rhys, raising an eyebrow,
"How many copies of this key are there right now, in the streets of Seoul?" I ask, pointing at the door
"Also, does this door not know how to lock?" I ask, under my breath.
"Did you tell her?" He asks slowly, eyes narrowing cautiously. Rhys flies in front of me, blocking me from seeing Kai, and makes a stop motion. I put my chin over Rhys's shoulder, now able to see Kai,
"Tell me what?" I ask, staring heavily at Kai. His eyes widen,
"That Minkara lost her maid of honor." He rushes out, sputtering everything out.
"She came here to tell me," I tell him, showing him my newly painted nails that are supposed to match the bridesmaid dresses.
"She brought you to paint your nails?" Realization finally hits him,
"You're the new maid of honor aren't you?" I shyly nod,
"She just offered it to me, so I took it!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up.
"Ok," Kai says, eyeing Rhys suspiciously. I pick up on the weird eye contact and tilt my head,
"What's really going on?" I shift all my weight to my left leg, jutting my hip out.
"Nothing." That both say at the same time, telling me that they both are lying.
"So if I ask Minnie, she won't say anything?" I ask, raising my shoulders and earth glaring both of them. Rhys looks at Kai, who stutters over his words,
"She shouldn't?" I shrug my shoulder and take out my phone when Kai blurts out,
"Rhys wants you to perform at the wedding."
"Oh. It's not that bad." I say, stunned that they thought that it would affect me that much. Kai nods,
"Cool. I'm going to leave now." He mumbles something that I couldn't hear and shuts the door, leaving Rhys and I alone. I flop back onto the couch,
"Why'd you think that performing at their wedding would phase me?" I ask, getting comfortable on the couch.
"I wasn't thinking of that," Rhys replies nonchalantly, scrolling through his phone in a daze.
"Then what were you thinking?" I ask, brushing a couple of stray crumbs off the sofa cushion that Minnie had left behind.
"I was thinking about how much I like you. The way that your lip-" He stops himself, slapping a hand over his mouth, his phone crashing onto the tile floor.
I stand up, my vision going dizzy and my breath speeding up. My arm feels around the smoothness of the wall, needing something to lean on.
"Tal, princess," Rhys reaches out for me with his ringed hands and I jerk back, not wanting to be touched by him,
"What, I thought that we- I just."My brain starts hazing and I run over to the window, my fingers fumbling over the hatch, trying to open it.
Rhys runs over and slides the window up, leaving me to greedily gulp down the fresh air. Finally, my vision returns to normal and I stare at him,
"You like me?" Rhys sighs, biting his lips,
"I do." Tears start leaking from my eyes and I run to the entryway of the house, my hands hovering over the doorknob, should I do this? Am I just overreacting?
"Talulah!" I hear Rhys scream and he makes my decision for me. I twist the knob and step out of the house, running into the flickering lights of Seoul.
