Fifty-right over left

"So, how long have you two been dating?" Kai asks through the mirror, making eye contact with me briefly.

"Um." I purse my lips and start counting on my fingers, hoping that Rhys would come to save the day. To my surprise, Rhys just sits there and I curse him out inaudibly, clenching my fists briefly. I look up with a painted smile,

"We've been dating for a little over five months," I say, twisting my ring anxiously. He stops at a crosswalk, letting the people pass, and turns toward Rhys,

"Wow. Rhys over here told us that you just started dating." He gestures to Rhys with a loose shoulder, causing the respondent to pale significantly. I straighten my back and peer at the confused Rhys,

"Really? I'm not surprised, Rhys always has forgotten our anniversaries." I back up his lie with yet another lie, my terrible lying skills forgotten.

"He has?" Kai asks, his knuckles tightening on the wheel, showing off his empty ring finger. I look at Rhys and mouth,

"Five years?" He looks at me sheepishly with a forgive me look. I shake my head, dismissing his puppy eyes.

"So who's the fiance?" I ask, gesturing with my chin to his empty ring finger. His face brightens and he pulls his phone off the charger, handing it to me.

"Open the lock screen." He says and I do so, smiling when I see the picture. The picture has a light monochromatic filter on it, giving it a retro vibe. Kai's cradling a small Korean girl in his arms as she slightly hides her face with her fingers. I return the phone back to him.

"What's her name?" I ask, crossing my legs in an attempt to feel comfortable. The urge to kick off my Toms and lounge across the seats was overtaking but I fought against it in an attempt to look proper.

When I was trying to get comfortable, Rhys saw my reflection in the mirror and snickers. I quickly silence his chuckles with a swift glare. As I stare Rhys down with a glare, Kai looks in the back to see my predicament. A slight chuckle comes from him too and this time I pout, knowing that I can't yell at his best friend.

His eyes fall back on the road, his hands moving diligently to keep us safe on the streets of Seoul. When he stops to make another turn he clears his throat,

"Her name's Minkara. We met in college six years ago and instantly clicked." He says, his smile filling the car with happiness.

"She sounds nice, will I get to meet her?" I ask, tilting my head softly. Kai nods, gradually slowing down in front of an old house. Rhys unbuckles his seatbelt and whirls around to look at me,

"Yes, you're gonna get to meet her princess. She actually wanted you to be a part of the bride's side." He says and my whole face lights up,

"Really?" I squeal, clapping my hands together quickly. Rhys opens my door for me and I walk out of the car, sticking my face back in when Kai says,

"Yes, she's really excited to meet you." I squeal in excitement, I enjoy learning about new cultures so maybe Minkara can teach me about her culture.

"Thank you, Kai,- oh and tell Minkara I look forward to meeting her!" I squeal, waving goodbye to the groom. He smiles back at me and speeds away, leaving me to figure out where we are.

"Is this an AirBnB?" I ask while slowly climbing up the stairs leading to the door. The wood creaked slowly under my weight as I softly brushed my hand over the old wood of the house.

Rhys shakes his head, crouching down and lifting the welcome mat, producing a key,

"No, it's my parent's house. They're at Kai's parent's house, helping out with the wedding preparations." He says, sticking the key in the keyhole, twisting it until he hears a click.

He swings the door open and walks in, with me shortly following. I looked around the house in wonder, there were old pictures of Rhys and someone else, his parents most likely.

"So you sorta grew up here?" I ask, peering at a picture of a younger version of both Kail and Rhys playing baseball.

"We mainly came over here every year until I went to college over the summer." He lets a chuckle out and peers into the fridge, frowning when he sees no food.

"I would volunteer to make food, but I can't read Korean," I say, pulling his attention away from the empty fridge. He pulls out a package of ramen and raises an eyebrow,

"How would you like some ramen?" He asks, getting a pot, filling it with water, and putting it on the stove.

"Can we share?" I ask, getting settled on the black couch. He nods, dropping the noodle into the water, along with the flavoring. I fiddle with the necklace, pulling my hair out of its ponytail, sighing in relief.

"Have you met Minkara?" I ask, throwing my hair tie into my backpack somewhere. He pours the ramen into a bowl, nodding,

"I was the one who introduced Kai to Minkara. He was whining about how he didn't have anybody to talk to on the campus, so I introduced him to Minkara." He speaks while rummaging through a drawer for something.

He comes up with two chopsticks and I fidget uncomfortably, I had no idea how to use chopsticks. He sets the bowl down on the table and hands me one of the chopsticks. I hesitantly take the pair of sticks and look at them awkwardly. I clear my throat,

"So Rhys, the thing is that I can't eat with chopsticks. Are there any forks?" I ask turning around to face a surprised Rhys with ramen stuffed into his mouth. He slurps the noodles falling out quickly and looks at me, not believing me.

"You don't know how to use chopsticks?" I shake my head and set my chopsticks down slowly,

"I never learned." I laugh sheepishly and he gestures for me to move forward. I do so and he takes his chopsticks and puts them in my mouth, taking them out to push the remaining noodle in my mouth.

We sit there, just like that, letting the moonlight settle on or shadow.
