"No, I won't, so stop worrying and eat, Bee." I did as I was told and tried forgetting what I had the done the night before.
I finished eating, Raven still by my side: "Why did you drink like that?" She asked me.
"I was depressed..." I looked away, not wanting to see the disappointment on her face, but when I looked back, she seemed worried.
She hummed to herself, then looked back at me, "I'm gonna get you a cellphone, if you ever feel like that again when I'm gone, you call me. I'm also gonna give you the numbers of Ivo and Milo." She brushed the hair out of my face and smiled softly." I don't want you to harm yourself anymore like that... you mean to much to me, now."
"Really?" I examined every part of her face, trying to discern the emotions that were dancing inside of her mind.
"Yeah... I had sworn I wouldn't let myself fall in love again, but you came into my life-"
"Well, actually you bought me..." I cut her off.
"Haha, yeah, you're right, but turns out I made a good choice, I'm I right?" She snapped back, a bit awkwardly.
"Yeah... I guess. My parents would've ended up dead anyways." I remembered the graphic scenes showed on national TV. When I looked back to Raven, she seemed completely lost in her thoughts while fixating me.
"You look so much like her..." She whispered to herself with a small tear in the corner of her left eye.
"You loved someone really deeply, did you?" I asked her.
"Yeah, I did," She answered simply.
"Did she get killed?"
"You shouldn't ask questions like that." Raven's eyes seemed to become darker as anger took over her voice.
"I'm- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" the doorbell rang, announcing the doctor's arrival. Raven shook her head, smiled at me and got up to open the door for him. They got upstairs pretty quickly after I heard them talking a bit in the hallway, thought it sounded more like mumbling from where I was in the house.
The doctor opened the door to the bedroom and smiled at me. His eyes were almost as red as Raven's, but they were still pretty dark with no reflection of gold. He must be good at his job if he was that old.
"Hi there Bee, how are you?" He asked me gently, leaving his medical instruments on the nightstand.
"I'm fine..." I answered hesitantly.
"Well, you're not fine if I'm here, that's for sure. So what about you tell me what happened?"
"Well I was alone here, I got drunk and when Ra-" I looked back at her, not sure how to address her in front of someone else. She simply gave me a nod so I continued with what I was saying. "And when Raven got back from her trip, we danced and then I noticed I was covered in blood. Flashbacks came back to me from where I was beaten pretty badly and I panicked. Raven tried to grab me, but I fell backwards and crashed my head onto something. That's pretty much what I can remember."
"I see, why were you covered in blood?" The doctor asked.
"I came back from a job," Raven answered before I could. The man only nodded, understanding what happened as I didn't. What job? What kind of job meant that you had to come back *covered* in blood?
I sat aside my questions and waited for what the doctor would do. He asked me a couple of other questions, all concerning my head, then did a small medical exam and concluded I had a concussion.
"Sadly, you can't completely treat concussions with vampire blood, so you'll have to stay in bed for a couple of days, taking small injections or simply drinking Raven's blood. Since she's older, you'll probably heal way faster than normal. I'll come back in 4 days to check back on you, in the mean time, avoid any activities that requires a lot of brain effort. So no reading or being on a phone/tablette/tv. Have a good rest!" The doctor packed his things and left the room with Raven leading him to the door.
I stayed in bed, thinking of what I would do for 4 days. It pissed me off that I couldn't read, because I had just discovered the library and I wanted to read so much more, but I guess I'll have to wait.
Raven said goodbye to the man, then I heard her coming back upstairs. She got in the bed and sat next to me just like before.
"I have a lot of work to do and I had planned bringing you with me, but with your concussion, I won't be able to do so... I hired a maid thought, so she'll be able to keep you company as well as cleaning the house while you rest," Raven said, pushing a strand of hair out of my face.
"For how long are you gonna be out?" I asked her, visibly sad from the news.
"5 days... but, hey," she lightly took my chin in her hand and turned my face so I was looking at her instead of the sheets, "You won't be alone, so don't worry, ok? I'll call you everyday and all." She smiled softly.
"What about your blood? I have to take it." I pushed my head to the side, getting out of her grip easily. She knit her eyebrows showing her disproval with what I had done, but accepted it pretty quickly.
"I'll prepare injections for you and I'll tell the maid about it." Her eyes seemed to be pouring out worry, but she managed to hide a lot of it. I think she was also frustrated that she had to go out, but with what I saw, I think it's safe to assume that her job is intense and it wouldn't be good for me to be with her, especially with my present condition.
Raven got up and went in the bathroom, closing the door behind her and leaving me to think when I shouldn't. I really wondered what her job was, but I doubt she would talk to me about it.
I heard the toilet flush, then the sink start and a couple seconds later, close. Raven got out, pausing in front of the bed and looking at me, still with "worry" painted on her forehead. She continued walking out the room, stopping right before completely passing through the doorframe.
"Her name," she paused, "it's Anastasia. I'll be checking in with her to make sure you're doing fine." With that she continued her path downstairs, leaving me sad and alone.
