*****Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope you enjoy it*****

Wyatt POV

I have no idea where I am or what is going on. The last thing I do remember is Uncle Scott laying into me as soon as I walk into the house. I tried to defend myself and fight back, which I hardly ever do, because he always got the upper hand. If I fought back it always led to a more severe beating. I was standing up to Uncle Scott and then everything went black. My head is pounding. My eyes are so heavy and I did not fight to open them. Why should I? No one is hurting me. I am resting somewhere being left alone so why not just continue what I'm doing.

I don't know how much time has past. My headache has eased up and my eyes don't feel as heavy. So, I decide to try and open them. I am in a hospital room with monitors on both sides of me. How in the world did I get here?! I feel something on my right hand so I look down to see a hand resting on top of mine and a head of red hair draping over my arm, flowing over the the bed. Whoever it is  seems to be sleeping due to the even breathing. I feel a pleasant, calming sensation throughout my body, especially strong from the hand being held. I wiggle my fingers to see if I get a  reaction and I do!! Suddenly, the red hair is no longer laying peacefully at my side. I see a red blur jerk up, staring at me. Maureen!! How did she know I was here?! She seems to stare at me for a moment then a smile appears while she takes a deep breath. She slowly sits down while looking at me and reaches out for my hand again.

"You're awake," she whispers. I take in her radiant face. She has fair skin (like most redheads) with cute little freckles sprinkled over her nose. Angel kisses is what my mom used to call them. I stare into her sparkling blue eyes and notice they look tired. "How long have I been here Maureen?" "Um, four days." she tells me. My jaw drops.

Then, the door opens with a doctor and nurse entering. The doctor slightly bows his head toward Maureen and looks toward me with a concerned expression. "How are you feeling Mr Smith?" he ask me.

I reply, "The first time I woke up my head was killing me and I was unable to open my eyes so I went back to sleep. Right now, my head still hurts just not as badly." I slowly touch my left eye and feel swelling and pain. "I also feel drained with pretty much no energy. My entire body feels like someone put me in a dryer with rocks. My whole body hurts honestly," I inform him. He writes notes his clip board, which I assume is my file and chart. I look over at Maureen while he continues to write. She gently smiles and holds my hand with her left while drawing slow circles on the   inside of my wrist with her right. It was actually soothing. The doctor proceeded to discuss my injuries and treatment. I really wasn't listening or processing any of it. Partly due to my headache although mostly because of Maureen. The doctor ask me "Do you have any questions?" I smile and say "I'll have to get back with you on that." I hear Maureen lightly chuckle while the doctor and nurse leave the room. "You didn't really hear anything he just said, did you?" she confirmed while looking at me. "No, not really, sorry," I tell her. "Don't worry. I'll fill you in later. Right now just rest," she assures me. So I take her advice to rest and fall asleep quickly.
