10:30am, at the courthouse : Judge Allison Bailey's sentencing of Scott Walters for assault on Wyatt Smith

Maureen POV

Shit, I think I'm more anxious then Wyatt. I believe it's because I am fighting Shelia so hard not to shift and snap Scott's neck. It's not that I don't want to snap his neck too it is just I don't want to shift here in the courthouse. That lowlife is  sitting there still breathing perfectly good air!

**I bet he thinks he will get off with a slap on the wrist- Shelia grunts.

*He will lose that bet!!

Wyatt POV

I hate this. I hate being in this courtroom. I hate being reminded of how life was with them. I've been so happy with Maureen and everyone at the house. I really hate having to re-live that night when I was beaten unconscious. I hate even more viewing the grotesque pictures of myself and listening to medical reports about my injuries, especially with Maureen in the room. Just a bit longer though. This is his sentencing after all. The lawyer hired has been really good. At the beginning of this mess Uncle Scott had pleaded not guilty. But then they realized my lawyer knew his shit and they were in trouble! So, he changed his plea to guilty on all counts. My guess is his lawyer sat him down and told him he was probably going to be on the losing end of this case. In order to receive a lesser sentence he needed to plead guilty. Well, I think having him plead guilty and have to  take some responsibility for his actions is some type of closure of me. I will need to work on forgiveness so I don't hang onto anger and become bitter. Forgiving is not really about the other person or their actions. It's about me, letting go of something that can not be changed, and moving forward.

"You ok?, Maureen whispers to me. "You look like you're about the throw up. Do you need to get some air before it begins? Water?", she ask sounding concerned.

"No, I'll be ok. Thank you", I answer. "Man, I just want this over!" She gives me a beautiful, reassuring smile and it calms me.
