Maureen POV

"So, one point I need to know, which I hope you can help shed some light on, is how this was delivered to my mate, especially since it was placed before him within my home", I state while removing the watch box from my coat pocket. "We know the poison came from your kingdom yet I need to know if a brownie came onto my territory and entered my home or just delivered the poison to someone else."

The Chieftain nods and slowly picks up the box, examining and smelling it. "I smell the poison, certainly, but I don't detect the corrupted brownie. Therefore, I don't believe the corrupted brownie was the one who actually delivered the box, which is a positive. I may be able to assist you in finding out who placed it in your mate's path. It takes a lot of energy and concentration however, so I will need some assistance when I try."

I inquisitively  stare at him and ask, "Can you please explain about corrupted brownies? Then, you can explain what needs to happen so you can help identify who left the box."

"Yes, of course. You can think of them as similar to your rogues, although I know not all rogues are criminals and have become rogues due to circumstances beyond their control. However, corrupted brownies do not become corrupted by accident or due to others actions. The responsibility rest solely with them. When one becomes corrupted I bestow the brownie with the corrupted mark, their smell is altered, they are imprisoned, and closely monitored."  He takes a deep breath and continues, "When this situation arose with your mate I personally visited the prison for the corrupted. It was only then that I was informed of a missing inmate. I punished all who covered up the incident and am currently searching for the corrupted one , whose name is Kaleo Keahi", he states  while handing me a file, which I open and begin to examine. I instantly lay eyes upon a man with similar features as the Chieftain except this man's eyes appear dull, empty. I close the file so as to review later and so I can give my full attention back to the Chieftain. He then hand me a shirt enclosed in plastic. "This is Mr. Keahi's shirt so you can be  familiar  with his scent. I deeply regret any pain he has caused you, your mate, and your pack. I assure you I am trying my best to locate him. I suspect he is receiving assistance from powerful witches or another species to help conceal his whereabouts or I would have located him by now through my magic."

He pauses, takes a deep breath, and leans forward placing his elbows on his knees while clasping his hands together as if pondering a complex issue. "Now, to helping you discover this box's route", he comments while picking up the black, leather watch box and rolling it around in his hands. "I have summoned Dr. Kane, who will be arriving in a few minutes. He is a trusted confidant in addition to a brilliant doctor. I need him present while I perform the spell due to its complex components."

"Will you be in danger during the spell Mr. Mahoe?", I inquire.

"Not from the spell itself, only from being distracted and weakened by the magic needed. So, it is  prudent to have a doctor present. The spell requires great concentration and energy. I can slip into a coma or be attacked.  Yet, even in that state I'm not that easy to overpower", he smirks at us. "Besides, I would not perform this spell, especially in your presence if I was not confident my kingdom and I were safe", he elaborates with a sincere smile. "Why don't we take a break and have a drink and snack while we wait for Dr. Kane and his assistant."
