The Next Day After Lunch
Wyatt POV
I finish cleaning the kitchen after our lunch and walk into the dining room with my laptop and phone. I make a call to Ms. Danees about taking a hiatus from work, as well as a few calls for school. Then, I know I need to get some school work done, which I want to get finish before Maureen gets back. She told me she had to take care of the situation with the guy Blaine, who is the person who punched me while I was in the pool. She assured me she would fill me in about it later.
2HRS LATER
I go turn on the stereo and start a CD for relaxation and background noise. I'm taking a break from school work and lay down on the couch in the living room for a rest. Last night was intense! So much information. This morning was ......just.........
FLASHBACK
We are laying in bed with the blanket resting comfortably over us. She is sleeping on her back and I'm on my side with my arm is gently hung over her waist. She looks so peaceful sleeping beside me. I just keep thinking back to last night. My grandma, uncle, and aunt lied to me! I didn't start the fire that killed my parents! How could they? How could they blame a 6yr old?! Those bastards!
Then, Maureen. She is a werewolf. I am her mate. An alpha's mate! How can I stand next her with my head held high when I'm.......me!!! I'm nothing special. I'm nothing compared to her, an alpha werewolf! I'm going to embarrass her! That starts to sink in and I have a knot in my stomach.
She interrupts my thoughts, "What are you thinking?" I hadn't noticed her wake-up.
"Nothing really," I reply.
"That's not true Wyatt. I know you are mulling over something. Please tell me," she softly ask.
I really don't want to discuss how inadequate I am; yet, I guess I better get it over with in case she has re-thought things and changes her mind about me. So I take a deep breath and sit up so I can face her.
"You are an alpha werewolf with great strength and have such respect from others. I can see that from how you interact with people around the estate." I pause and look at my hands for a bit. She waits patiently for me to continue.
I look back at her beautiful face and say, "Yet, you ended up with me as a mate. I'm so sorry." I break eye contact again and start to fidget with the edges of the comforter. "I'm not a werewolf. I'm weak, can't fight, and can't help you with anything. I'm on going to get in your way and embarrass you. I mean, think of when you introduce me to other packs. They'll laugh at you. I can't stand the thought of you catching flack because if me. Are you sure you want to accept me?" I finish, taking another deep breath waiting for her to re-think things and reject me. Shit, I sound like such a wimp......because I am one.
I felt a hand on my cheek and a deep heard a deep, shaky breath. Then, I hear her angelic voice, which sounded sad. Beautiful yet sad.
"You are not an embarrassment. You are not weak. You are stronger than you realize. I don't want anyone else. You may be human yet you are MY human. You survived such difficult situations for a long time. It hurts my heart to think of what you went through all those years. I hate to think you see yourself like that too." She pauses. Then follows with, "Ok, now I do not want you to get upset with what I'm about to say."
She stops talking and cups my cheek. I'm starting to dread when she pauses!
"You have been in a horrible live arrangement for so long. One which left you malnourished, timid, and easily intimidated," she mentions to me.
