CHAPTER 43: The Less I Know The Better

I eventually got over The Walters and changed the band to Tame Impala. Laney took me to a concert a while back and ever since then I've really enjoyed their music. The first song to come on was 'The Less I Know The Better' and I couldn't help but dance a little while I drove to work.

Someone said they left together. I ran out the door to get her. She was holding hands with Trevor. Not the greatest feeling ever.

I sang along to the music as I passed the beach I was just sitting at. I turn my head and look at it out the passenger side window. I smile at it and roll my windows down, letting the song pour out of the car as the warm morning sun welcomes itself in.

Said, "Pull yourself together, you should try your luck with heather." Then I heard they slept together. Oh, the less I know the better.

I sing along with the song as my view of the ocean ends and I am back to looking at the road and dancing in my seat until I get to work.

It wasn't a very long car ride. Enough time for me to get through 'The Less I Know The Better', 'Borderline', and 'Half Full Glass of Wine'. I pulled into the usual parking lot right next to the coffee shop and got out of the car, walking towards the shop.

I walked into to see two familiar faces that were Josh and Jo, but one face I had never seen together. She was a short girl, brunette with a black short and darker jeans on. I saw her head turn to me one I walked in, but she looked right back down as everyone else greeted me.

I walked behind the counter and up to the register, standing right next to her. I clocked myself in quietly as I saw her filling out the same paperwork I had to fill out the first day I got the job here.

"First day?" I asked her, still looking at the register but I could feel her head turn to me and turn back to the papers.

"Uh.. yeah. Yeah it is," she responds very hesitant.

"You're nervous, too?" I ask. She didn't respond, but I could tell she heard my question by the way she stopped writing, mid sentence, after I asked. "Relax, there's nothing to worry about here. Everyone is super nice and it's a fairly easy job," I tell her, touching her shoulder and she looks up to me and nods. "What's your name?"

"Brianna," she responds quickly.

"Well it's nice to meet you Brianna, I'm Rosie. You're welcome to call me Ro if you want. It's what all my friends call me," I tell her, trying to make her feel more welcome. I turn her to the rest of the crew. "I'm sure you've met Josh and Jo," I said to her. They both wave to her and she waves back with a smile.

"Yes, I have," she says, "and you can just call me Bri."

"Josh, what is Bri going to be doing today?" I ask and his attention turns to me.

"Well," he starts, "I was hoping you could maybe train her on the register then she could take over that while you make the orders for her and bus tables."

"Sounds great to me," I said to him, turning back to her and facing the register. "It's really pretty easy. They have all the coffee choices right here," I say pointing to the side of the iPad, "if they wanted a caramel Iced latte you would go to the iced section and choose 'latte'. Then it pulls up at the iced latte choices we have, so you would choose 'Caramel'." I explain to her, tapping the screen some number of times as I type in the order. "Then it said 'add ins' and this is where if they ask for vanilla or extra cream you can put it in from there. Got it?" I ask and she nods her head. "Okay, let's practice," I say running around the counter and walking up to it as if I am a customer.

"Hello, welcome to Beachwood. What can I get started for you?" Bri asks giggling with a big smile on her face.

"Yes, can I get a vanilla iced coffee, but can you add almond milk in there instead of the other milk," I say in a low, man-like voice, making her giggle even more.
