My father didn't completely abandon me.
It was a big scandal. Imagine, a respectable pastor and a public servant, go separate ways to pursue their sinful affairs. Regardless of that, no one asked about me. No one talked about me. It was like my name was nothing but a fossil... entirely forgotten.
I told Vina what happened. Sinamahan nya akong mag-ayos ng gamit matapos naming mamili ng mangilan-ngilang appliances noong isang linggo.
"Paano ang allowance mo?" she asked as she arranged my books on a table.
"I don't know... baka magtrabaho na lang muna ako."
I told her the details and as expected, she was furious about everything. Mira knows how much my mother loathes me. She knows how much I've suffered yet she tolerated what happened.
She's my friend for years and I know that it created a huge gap between us. I feel like I lost her, too.
She gave me a nod before leaving the room.
"Hello?" I breathe.
"Pauwi na kami," he chuckled.
I groaned but after some time, I laughed. Something tugged my heart. His laughs sounded so comforting.
He has no idea about what happened to my family. This time, I answered all his calls, even when I'm in the midst of a breakdown.
"See you tomorrow, bilog," pang-aasar nya.
"Troy!"
He chuckled. "Oo na, baby na, nagagalit agad!"
"Just call me by my name!" giit ko pa kahit dahan-dahang sumisilay ang ngiti sa labi ko.
The calls are always like that. Brief but enough to calm me. They're still fresh and painful.
I sighed and brought my wrist to my lips. I kissed it gently and whispered my apology.
I continued doing my chores only to realize that from this day on, I'll have to live alone.
The salary is enough for me to eat and live.
